Jay Madison Bannister, a modern renaissance man, bid farewell to this world on July 17th, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of love, accomplishments, and cherished memories. Jay was a loving husband, devoted father of three, beloved grandfather of nine, great-grandfather, a dedicated brother, and a talented professional. His extraordinary life was marked by his contributions as an architect, proud-veteran, artist, photographer, potter, author, musician, pilot, and fisherman. He is survived by his wife, Marie; sister, Toni; and children, Bryan, Jill and Neal.
Born on March 19th, 1935, in Snyder, Texas, Jay grew up with an unwavering curiosity and an innate talent for design. His inquisitive nature led him to pursue a career in architecture, graduating from Texas Tech University and having a long and distinguished career. With an impressive command of his craft, Jay designed buildings that combined elegance and functionality, leaving lasting impressions on the communities he served.
Beyond architecture, Jay's innate technical skills set him apart in his field. His attention to detail and innovative problem-solving abilities allowed him to approach projects with a unique perspective. Jay's contributions to the architectural community were widely recognized, earning him the admiration and respect of his peers. His book, Building Construction Inspection: A Guide for Architects was published by John Wiley and Sons.
Jay's passion for flying was another aspect of his multifaceted life. As a pilot, he took to the skies, soaring above the clouds with a sense of freedom that brought him immense joy. His adventurous spirit led him to design and build his own experimental aircraft, which he dubbed “Lil-Bruiser”.
Jay's love for fishing was an unwavering constant throughout his life. Whether casting a line into a serene lake or venturing into mountain streams, he found solace and contentment in the tranquil rhythm of the water. He took pride in crafting his own fishing flies.
While Jay's professional achievements were remarkable, his family held an unparalleled place in his heart. As a father, Jay instilled in his children the values of perseverance, integrity, and compassion. As a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Jay shared a lifetime of love, laughter, and unwavering support. Together, they built a strong foundation of love and companionship, inspiring their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren to follow in their footsteps.
Although Jay's physical presence may be gone, his spirit will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate to have known him. His remarkable achievements will continue to inspire future generations. Jay’s legacy is one of passion, dedication, and a life well-lived. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
In honor of Jay's extraordinary life, a Celebration of Life will be held at Frontiers of Flight Museum in Dallas. Friends and family are welcome.
