Jarrell was born on February 1, 1947, in Teague, TX, to the parentage of Jarrell Barnes, Sr. and Erma Lee Barnes.
Jarrell joined New Zion Baptist Church in Fairfield, TX at an early age and later united with Christ Trinity Baptist Church in Dallas, TX. After retiring he later moved back to Fairfield, TX until his health failed and then moved to Hutchins, TX.
Jarrell attended Booker T. Washington in Teague, TX and after graduating in 1965 he later attended Paul Quinn College in Waco, TX and was a member of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated.
Jarrell served in the United States Army. He received the following honors from the military: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal w/2 Bronze Service Stars; Good Conduct Medal; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; Expert (Rifle)
Jarrell worked for Sears as a warehouse supervisor for many years until he retired.
Jarrell married Kanata Jean Flakes and to this union one son was born Jarrell Barnes, III.
Jarrell was preceded in death by his father and mother, Jarrell Barnes, Sr. and Erma Lee Barnes, brothers, Bobby C. Barnes, Edward Barnes, Arsby B. Barnes, sisters, Sallie Rose Barnes, Shirley Freeman and son’s mother Kanata Flakes Barnes.
Jarrell leaves to cherish his memories: one son, Jarrell Barnes III, Hutchins, TX, two daughters, Georgia Buie of Oakland, CA and Kristen Thomas, Dallas, TX, brothers Lewis D. (Teresa) Barnes of Mexia, TX, Otha W. (Sandra) Barnes of Dallas, TX, Donald R. Barnes (Joan) of Houston, TX, sisters Opal F Montgomery of Elizabeth Town, KY, Ivorye West of Dallas, TX, Rutha Polk of Dallas, TX, Mildred Anderson of Conroe, TX
Brother-in-law Windrell Freeman of Dallas,TX, two grandchildren Faith Clay and Cherish Clay and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
