James W. Singleton III, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 24th, 2010 at the age of 68. He was preceded in death by his parents James W. Singleton, Jr. and Lucille Wainscott Singleton. Jim was born in Houston, Texas on June 8, 1942. He moved to Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Sunset High School. He then went to the University of North Texas where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. Subsequently, he received a graduate degree at Southern Methodist University’s Graduate School of Banking. Jim then worked as a bank teller at Republic Bank and Trust. He quickly worked his way up the ranks and became the president of Peoples State Bank. After a 30 year banking career, Jim began a successful 18 year career in insurance with Mass Mutual, driven by a strong desire to help people. If Jim called you his friend, he was your friend for life. We will dearly miss Jim's larger than life personality, kind smile, and overwelming love for his family and friends. Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years Chari, his brother James D. Nelson of San Diego, his children James W. Singleton IV, Terri L. Hawkins, Jeffrey W. Hellberg, Jr. and wife Mandy, and Maria Orr and husband Lee, nine grandchildren, and so many wonderful friends. A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 29th at 1:00p.m. at Highland Park Presbyterian Church.
