James Francis Gallivan, Jr. passed away Saturday, September 24th, 2022. He died peacefully surrounded by his family and in the arms of those who loved him. Born October 21st, 1957, to James Francis Gallivan and Joan Fisch Gallivan in Greenville, South Carolina. Jimmy and his family, including his sister Clarke and brother Joe, moved from Greenville, SC, to Nashville, Tennessee. Jimmy graduated from The McCallie School in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Southern Methodist University where he was a proud member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Shortly after graduation, he began his career at Rauscher Pierce Refsnes before founding an investment fund and other entrepreneurial ventures, most recently a family wine business with two of his sons. Jimmy was a member of Brook Hollow Golf Club and served on many community, philanthropic and professional boards over the years.
Jimmy is survived by his wife of 41 years, Sharon Vaughn Gallivan, his sons: Jimmy (Abby), Jack and Travis (Sara); grandchildren Gracie, Jane, Halle, Harrison and Luke. He is also survived by his loving parents, Jimmy and Joan Gallivan, his brother Joe Gallivan (Traci) and sister Clarke Gallivan (MJ); brothers-in-law Jack Vaughn (Annette), Robie Vaughn (Fallon) and David Vaughn; along with his many nieces and nephews.
He was the consummate family patriarch. His pride and joy were his three sons and their children who knew him as “Gally”. His favorite times were spent traveling with his wife to St. Thomas and Aspen, his love for classic cars and big boats, spending time with his grandchildren, watching golf, Mexican food and enjoying his love for wine and family. Jimmy was known by others for his larger than life personality, vibrant laugh, funny stories, compassionate heart and willingness to do anything for anyone. His hospitality was matched by none as he hosted countless people on his boat, the infamous Bacchus. His sons’ friends will remember him as their own friend because that is how he treated them. The Gallivan family vacations to Mexico and St. Thomas always included his sons' friends where he was the life of the party. He was constantly serving those around him with a selfless love and giving generously to those in need under the condition of anonymity. Jimmy truly lived life to the fullest and had a deep passion for good music, photography, wine and being on the water. He will be further remembered by his emotional side often being moved to tears by his empathy and his child like faith in God.
Jimmy will be greatly missed. We thank God for our time together and the life lessons he taught us.
The memorial service will take place at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 30th ,at Saint Michael and All Angels Church. If so inclined, please make memorial tributes to a charity near and dear to his heart, Family Legacy Missions International (give.familylegacy.com or email [email protected].)
