Jake Nathan Veal left the arms of his loving family to be embraced in the arms of his Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, at 12:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Jake bravely battled with Parkinson’s disease for several years. Jake was born in Ardmore, Oklahoma on November 5, 1920 to Millard Hampton and Maud Veal. Jake was one of nine siblings: six brothers and three sisters. Jake served his country in the U. S. Coast Guard during World War II along with five of his six brothers who served in various branches of the armed forces. After the war, Jake graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1949. He was a Certified Public Accountant and worked for the Internal Revenue Service for over 30 years. Jake married his bride of 65 years, Margie Roddy Veal, on September 25, 1949. He and Margie have two children, Larry and Susan. Jake came from a family of golfers and loved the sport. He and the Veal brothers and sisters built the Oak Ridge Park Golf Course in Lewisville, Texas. Even when he could no longer play the game, he loved to watch it on TV. Jake had a gorgeous baritone voice and used it for the glory of God by singing in his church choir for many years. He and Margie were long time members of Lochwood Baptist Church in Dallas and are currently members of Calvary Hill Baptist Church in Mesquite. Jake will be greatly missed by his wife, Margie; his son, Larry Veal, wife, Jackie of Pittsfield, New Hampshire; his daughter, Susan Harris, husband, Mike of Dallas: his daughter-in-law, Sue Veal of Rochester, New Hampshire; his granddaughters, Ashley Harris, Jen Mayhew, and Andrea Veal, husband, Michael; his grandsons, Clifton Harris and Blake Harris; his sister, Doris McKee; five sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law; and many, many nieces and nephews. Jake is preceded in death by his father and mother, Millard Hampton and Maud Veal; his brothers, Guy, Travis, Millard Hampton Jr. “MH,” Frederick, and James Robert “Bob” Veal; and his sisters, Nib Baxley and Rae Watkins. Visitation will be Friday, 6-8pm, April 17, 2015 at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home on Garland Rd, Dallas. A service celebrating the life of Jake will be held on Saturday,10:30 am, April 18, at Calvary Hill Baptist Church, 3300 La Prada in Mesquite, TX. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, Dallas, TX
