He attended Homer High School and Pine View High School, where he learned his building/remodeling skills and graduated in 1959. He moved to Dallas, Texas, and later became a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and joined the L.O. Avery Male Chorus.
He met and married Ozzie Applewhite and, to this union, four children were born: Phyllis McClellan, Kenneth McClellan, Luther McClellan, and Isaac McClellan. He later started his own business, I. McClellan Construction Company. He had a large clientele in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, including Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church and Hamilton Park Baptist Church. He later married Wanda J. Wortham, who had five children. He served on the Deacon and Usher Boards, and was active in Sunday School. He also engineered many of the repairs for the church.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife, Wanda McClellan; eight sons, Dexter Hall, Kenneth McClellan (Tina), Luther McClellan, Isaac McClellan (LaSharion), William Wortham, Gerry Wortham, Darrell Wortham (Misha), and Roderick Wortham; two daughters, Phyllis McClellan-Range (Derrick) and Denise Wortham Cage (Michael); four brothers, C.T. McClellan, Luly T. McClellan, James McClellan (Margaret), and Freddie McClellan (Claudette); and a host of special loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
