Gary Wayne Fisher

Gary Wayne Fisher, age 71, passed away on February 20, 2023 in Dallas, Texas. He was born on February 12, 1952 in Dallas, Texas to Dale and Marie Fisher. He was raised near Mountain Creek Lake in Grand Prairie, Texas and is where he graduated high school as a proud Gopher. He went on to have a very distinguished academic career where he obtained his B.B.A. from the University of Texas at Arlington in 1975, became a Certified Public Accountant in 1978, and got his MBA from Southern Methodist University in 1979. He was one of the first Fisher’s to complete higher education and was proud of his accomplishments. He held education in high regard and actively spent his life seeking knowledge in the pursuit of continual learning. He married Cathy Long in 1972 and they had three wonderful children.

Gary had a distinguished career starting in 1975 as a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand, followed by being Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for AmeriCare Corporation. In 1985, he became the Divisional Partner over Senior Living Communities for Trammell Crow Residential, and then Division President for Wyndham Senior Living Services. In 1992 he followed his entrepreneur dreams and started his own company. He was Owner/President/Chairman of Wind River Companies from 1992 to 2023. Wind River is a Development, Management, and Consultant firm for the Senior Living Industry. Throughout his career he was an innovator in the field of Senior Living and won multiple awards for the properties he developed. Always focusing on building relationships, he touched the lives of everyone he worked with. His honest and caring spirit, one of a kind personality, and natural leadership skills are highlights of his lasting legacy.

In his spare time he enjoyed spending time with his family and had a variety of talents and hobbies. Gary was a skilled athlete and sportsman. He enjoyed baseball in his youth, played collegiate level basketball, was an accomplished bowler, a tennis pro champion, and loved playing golf with his family and friends. He also enjoyed shooting sporting clays, fishing, water skiing, and snow skiing. He was a skilled chess player and enjoyed playing card and board games, was an avid reader, and enjoyed all types of speaking and teaching opportunities.

Family and friends will remember Gary for his conversation, kind nature, wise words, great sense of humor, and his incredible work ethic. He was a strong man of God and was dedicated to be of service to others in the glory of the Lord. He not only spoke his beliefs but also displayed them in his character and actions. He was a joy to be around, his laugh was infectious, and he could bring you peace with his presence. He was an amazing father, family member, and friend and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his wife Cathy Fisher, son Mickey (Alicia) Fisher, Jack and Dean, son Aaron Fisher, Axel and Noraa, and daughter Sara (Ryan) Holloway, Olive; his brother Ronnie (Karen) Fisher, nephew Chris Fisher, nephew Clayton (Lindsey) Fisher, Alyssa; along with many friends and relatives across the country.
