Frances Charlene Caskey Chapman passed away on March 19, 2025 at the age of 98. She was born in a little white house on September 10, 1926 to Preston and Milo Caskey in Crockett, Texas. She was wrapped and placed in a rocking chair because she was not breathing properly and was diagnosed as a “blue baby” and not expected to live! But, here we are 98 years later, and she just passed away. God had more plans for her!
She spent her youth in Crockett, Texas and attended Crockett High School. She met her husband, Aubrey Lloyd Chapman in Crockett, also. After marriage and the birth of their first daughter, they moved to Dallas, Texas in the early 1940s. She gave birth to 3 more children, 2 daughters and 1 son. She lived in Dallas in the Oak Cliff area for 80+ years until her death. She attended Cockrell Hill Baptist Church in the 1950s. She returned to this church after her husband passed away. She very much enjoyed participating in many church activities and projects. This church became her second family. She met life long friends at Cockrell Hill Baptist Church.
Charlene was a homemaker and bookkeeper for the family business. Her four children kept her pretty busy, but her beginning in that rocking chair must have given her untold resilience! She was a wonderful cook and loved all the family gatherings. She hosted a large family Christmas celebration every year until unable to do so. She was very friendly and never said an unkind word about anyone. She was always there for family members when needed and was a trouper when asked to go anywhere. She attended many graduations, baptisms, birthday parties, and she even showed up to dye Easter eggs with the young and old children and stir her famous gravy at Thanksgiving. She loved making memories with her family and friends!
She is preceded in death by her husband, Aubrey Lloyd Chapman; her youngest daughter, Shirley Chapman Graham; and parents, Preston and Milo Caskey; and sister, Jeanette Caskey Ewing and her husband, William Boyd “Bo” Ewing.
She is survived by her daughter, Helen Chapman Reid and husband, Robert “Bob” Reid of The Woodlands,TX; her daughter, Linda Chapman Erwin of Dallas, TX; her son, James Paul Chapman and wife, Sandra Sneed Chapman of Holly Lake Ranch,TX.
She is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 6 great great grandchildren and 1 more great great grandchild on the way to be born on or around her 99th birthday in September. She thought it was so special to be a member of a 5th generation family!
She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was so proud of her family and deeply loved all of them. Charlene, Mom, Mother or Mimi as she was called will be missed beyond words! But, she truly believed we will all meet in heaven someday!
