Elizabeth Cannon was born December 23, 1910 on the family farm near Alvarado, Texas. Education was always a center point in her life. She was an active member of the Pleasant Mound United Methodist Church for over 50 years, where she taught Sunday School and was active in the United Methodist Women's Group.
She and Marcus sacrificed to ensure their son attended college. He was the first in the Cannon family to do so, graduating from SMU.
