Eva Hildegard Pully (Hildy), beloved wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother ("Omi" to her flock of grandchildren), passed away on December 3, 2022, after a full and well-lived life.
Born in Germany on March 5, 1927, she grew up in the small village of Nieder-Klingen. After World War II ended, she left home and learned English because no opportunities existed to attend college. She went to work as a secretary for the American Post Exchange in Bad Nauheim, where she met her husband of 70 years, John Pully. In 1952 she and John married and, shortly thereafter, moved to the United States, initially living in Union City, N.J. with John's family and working in New York City. They then resided in Washington, D.C., for fifteen years, where they had their three children. Always maintaining a closeness with family in Germany, she was thrilled when John was transferred there in 1967, where the family spent five years. The family moved to Dallas in 1972, where she has lived ever since, although traveling regularly to Germany and other wonderful destinations.
Hildy enjoyed many professional successes upon moving to Dallas, though her greatest love and joy was always family. She welcomed each new family member - her children's spouses and then her grandchildren and great-grandchildren - with an enduring love and grace that each of them will never forget. She also had a wonderful circle of friends who she loved and they loved her back because of the kindness and friendship that she offered unequivocally. She was the best role model that any of us could have known and she had an unforgettable smile. One of the ways that she spread her love was through her wonderful cooking and the family gatherings where food was served. Her grandchildren's particular favorite was her bienenstich cake.
She was a fighter until her last breath, having been in hospice care for over a year. The journey wasn't easy, with many bumps in the road, including a bout with Covid. Through it all, her infectious smile was there every day - family, friends and the wonderful staff that assisted her always brought the smile out. The family is especially grateful for the incredible care that she received from Hector, Joy and Mercy and the senior hospice nurse Loe, and the family is deeply appreciative of all who made her more comfortable and shared their time with her.
She is survived by her husband, John Pully, and her three children, Andrea, Steven and his wife, Diana Howard, and Nancy and her husband, John Haddad. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Lauren Pully and her husband, Dylan Graham, Katherine Pully, Nicole Haddad Johnson and her husband Jordan Johnson, Topher Haddad, Davey Haddad and Josh Haddad, three great-grandchildren, Poppy and Eva Johnson and Owen Graham and many nieces and nephews in the U.S. and Germany, all of whom she cherished. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother and two sisters.
