Eric Ernest Weiss

Eric was born in Lorain, Ohio, the oldest son of Ernest and Bertha Weiss, who had emigrated from Germany following WWI due to devastated economic conditions in their fatherland.

Eric was preceded in death by his parents, his only brother, Walter, and his first wife Donna R. Weiss.

Eric grew up in the Midwest during the Depression years. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1944, with written approval from his father, which was required since Eric was underage. Eric served as an Electrician’s Mate 3C in the Pacific Theater during WWII.

Following the war, Eric enrolled in Wheaton College and graduated in 1950 with a bachelor’s degree. Eric then moved to California which was his home for 3 decades. During his professional career, Eric used his engineering background to provide construction and project management to large commercial projects in CA, NV, and TX.

Eric was a quiet man and a deep thinker. He read multiple newspapers and periodicals every day, and he enjoyed discussions on a myriad of subjects . Eric was health-oriented, and he was a runner for many decades. Eric faithfully exercised at home and at the Tom Landry Center.

A man of deep faith, Eric studied Scripture and prayed aloud the most beautiful prayers throughout his life.

Eric is survived by Mary Lou Meletio Weiss, his wife of 22 years; his children Barbara Powell (husband Sam), Eric Jr. (wife Kerry), Gretchen Haig (husband David); grandchildren Sean Michael Weiss, Ian Patrick Weiss, and Meaghan Rose Weiss; stepson Eric Smith (wife Leslie), and step grandchildren Zephyr Smith and Vix Falco Smith. Eric’s family and friends now extend across 2 continents and include: Texas, California, Hawaii, Illinois, and Germany.

The family extends its gratitude to the physicians who provided exceptional care to Eric over the years: Dr. Raymon Aggarwal, Dr. Paul Aggarwal, and Dr. Babu Reddy.

A liturgy and celebration of Eric’s life will be held on March 9, 2019, at 10:00 AM at Calvary Hill North Chapel, located at 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas, Texas 75220.

Father Jonathan Austin will officiate.

Burial will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery.
