Betty was born August 6, 1945, to J. Curtis Sanford and Elizabeth England Sanford. She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband and love of her life of 42 years, John F. Crawford; loving daughters Courtney Slater (Edward), Kristin Andreasen (Doug), and Elizabeth Bentrup (Alan). She is also survived by eight grandchildren and her brother, J. Curtis Sanford, Jr. (Susan), her nieces, cousins and a multitude of dear friends.
Betty had an infinite love for her family, friends and strong faith. She had an infectious smile and will forever be remembered as a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, cousin, aunt and friend. Her unwavering generosity, kindness, compassion and attitude that never put herself before others, will always remain with us.
She was a third-generation Dallasite, attended Hockaday and Highland Park schools, and graduated from the University of Texas where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta sorority, before launching a distinguished and successful 45+ year real estate career. Betty was also well-noted for her civic, charitable and philanthropic contributions. She served as the First Lady of the Cotton Bowl Classic football game, which her father founded January 1, 1937. She was active in the Crystal Charity Ball, the Dallas Arboretum Board, Chair of the Flora Award Dinner benefitting The Texas Discovery Garden, Founder and President of Profitmaker Investment Club, a member of the Junior League of Dallas, the 2020-2021 President of Marianne Scruggs Garden Club and a member of the Dallas Woman’s Club Board where she continued the legacy of her mother who served as President.
Dallas Country Club was one of her favorite places to gather and celebrate many special occasions and quiet dinners with family and valued friends. She also loved spending time in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where she loved the gorgeous sunsets and Montecito, California, for the perfect weather to play golf, workout and relax.
Betty was a beautiful lady and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at Saint Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas Avenue, Dallas, TX, 75225, on Thursday, August 5, at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the ALS Association of Dallas, The Dallas Arboretum and the Cotton Bowl Foundation.
