Dr. David Banta passed away peacefully in his home on June 4, 2018. David was a loving husband, father and grandfather and lived his life as a true southern gentleman. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama, on January 25, 1954, to Marjorie and Jack Banta. David grew up in Mobile, Alabama, where he graduated from University Military School. While earning the rank of an Eagle Scout, he cultivated his love of the outdoors and hunting. David was an avid aviator and loved to fly anywhere, anytime, in his Cessna 206. David flew countless cancer patients as a pilot for Angel Flight South Central, where he served as President of the North Texas Chapter and received the Pilot of the Year Award in 2006. David obtained his dental degree from Baylor College of Dentistry here in Dallas and completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Residency at the University of Oklahoma School of Medicine in 1983. In addition to his private practice of 34 years on Sherry Lane in Preston Center, he cherished his loyal staff members and the patients he served. He was a member of the staff at Baylor University Medical Center, Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas and Medical City Dallas Hospital. He was a member of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and numerous other state and local dental organizations. David is survived by his wife, Lisa Carol Banta; sisters Gwen Donaldson (Roy), Sheryl Etheridge; daughters Mackenzie Staples (Hal), Kamie Banta, Ashley Bryant (Rea); son Preston Banta and four grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be at 3 PM, Friday, June 15, 2018, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas.
