Donald was born on February 19, 1944, at Sloan Kettering Hospital in Manhattan, New York. His parents moved to Texas when he was two years old and moved into their home which was designed by his father in 1951. After receiving a master’s degree in history at the University of North Texas Donald worked in his father’s architecture firm, Broad and Nelson Architecture, and later at M/A/R/C, a marketing Research company for 18 years. He will be remembered for his kindness, his genuine love for his friends and his amazing ability to recall specific details of his life, his friends’ lives, and the world. Recently, Donald achieved his life’s goal of becoming a published author. Jerry and the Princess was published on Amazon in June 2024. Donald enjoyed walking and was well known in his neighborhood since he would stop and get to know everyone. He was a true gentleman and always thought of others. In 1972 Donald began attending the Catholic Traditional Latin Mass and converted to Catholicism in 1975. Donald was a devout man who loved our Lord and His mother. He was a charter parishioner of the Fraternity of St. Peter Parish, Mater Dei Catholic Church, and has been devoted to the Order since they began offering Mass in Dallas, Texas.
Donald has no living blood family but leaves behind a very large spiritual family and his cat, Beatrix. In particular, he was greatly loved by Jeannine Tippens and Frances Hill and her family for many years. But others cannot be excluded as his family and should include the Lowe family, the Truty family, the Bralick family, the Howard family, his high school and college friends whom he treasured and a great many others who are all too numerous to mention by name. He was preceded in death by his mother, Matilda Fowler Nelson, his father Donald Seigfried Nelson, Erin the cat and Ginger the cat. The visitation will be held at 5:00 p.m., with a rosary at 6:00 p.m., on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home 7405 W. Northwest Hwy, Dallas, TX 75225.
