Diane Brown

Diane Brown, age 81, went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Friday, September 15, 2023. Ms. Brown was the daughter of E. R (“Bud”) Brown and Juanita Brown Aguiluz, both of whom were residents of Wood County, Texas, at the time of Ms. Brown’s birth. Ms. Brown passed away after a long term illness.

A memorial service will be conducted by Pastor David Brown, former neighbor and a good friend, at 2 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2023 at the chapel at Laurel Land Funeral Home, 6300 South R.L. Thornton Freeway, Dallas, Texas.

Ms. Brown loved and was loved by her uncle and aunt, Morris and Jo Ann Gill of Baytown; cousins Tom Gill of Dallas, Gerald Skinner of Waxahachie, Martha Conley of DeSoto, Dorma Shields and Betty Cassells of Quitman, Onieta Huey of Pasadena, James McDaniel, a multitude of other cousins, and by Rosella Kiern, whom she considered a sister.

Although she was not materially wealthy, she was rich indeed, having been blessed with the love and grace of our Heavenly Father and the love, trust and support of many faithful, long-term friends, who were treated as family.

Ms. Brown worked most of her entire adult life, first as a legal secretary, executive assistant and paralegal for, among others, the late Judge Thomas L. Ryan of Collin County, Texas; P. Anthony Lannie, Executive Vice President of Greyhound Lines; John R. Johnson of Hewitt, Johnson, Swanson & Barbee (later as a real estate paralegal of the firm, then named Johnson & Wortley). She retired in 2004 from the Legal Department of Hunt Oil Company after having worked for 10 years with Jim Johnson and George Potter.

Diane Brown was a faithful and highly respected employee in the legal field. She will be remembered as a beloved friend and advisor to many, always ready with information, advice, humor and a listening ear. She had an unending thirst for knowledge and was an in-depth researcher into multiple fields. Diane defied medical odds for survival for many years, and we all admired her grit and tenacity in doing so. We could not have asked for a better friend and ally to champion whatever cause was brought to her attention. Diane put the needs of others ahead of her own, and she will be long remembered with love and admiration. Each of us is a better person for having known her. Diane was one of a kind — greatly loved and deeply missed.
