Denise was born on February 14, 1953 to John William and Ann Naomi McMillan of Oak Cliff. She graduated from Bishop Dunne High School in 1971. After receiving her Associate’s Degree in Nursing from El Centro College she dedicated her 32-year nursing career to taking care of newborn babies. Denise spent many years as a Senior Research Nurse at UT Southwestern Medical School in Dallas. She loved watching baseball and you were guaranteed to find the Texas Rangers on the television in her home during the baseball season. She also loved watching her two sons play baseball from tee ball all the way through college. She was extremely proud of her only grandson and loved spending time with him as well as being “on call” for all the questions that her oldest son and daughter-in-law would call with as new parents. Her favorite hobbies included cross stitching and crocheting hats for the troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan through The Ships Project. Denise regularly attended 5:00pm mass at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church and she greatly enjoyed not only Father Ben’s homily but his joke of the week as well. Denise is survived by her husband of 34 years James E. Manning of Vidor, Texas; sons John J. Manning of Grand Prairie, Texas and James K. Manning of Grand Prairie, Texas; grandson James D. Manning of Grand Prairie, Texas; sister Carol Furner of Buchanan, Michigan; brother Robert McMillan of Chipley, Florida; and numerous nephews and nieces. There will be a viewing on Sunday, December 4, 2016 at Laurel Land Funeral Home in Dallas, Texas from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Funeral services will be held at Saint Elizabeth of Hungary Catholic Church in Dallas, Texas on Monday, December 5, 2016 at 12:00pm.
