It is with a heavy heart that I have just recently found that my dear friend who introduced me to the Lord passed away last year. my name is Tarone Claybrook. Darrell and I both grew up in Los Angeles. We came to know each other as students in the engineering program at California State University Northridge. We further came to know each other as members of Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. There I also met his wife in the birth of their first child. Darrell moved away to Texas separating us for decades. I came to know his mother and his family which gave me the ability to find him all the way in Texas.  My condolences or to everyone family and friends however this late since his passing. her names being similar also kept us close in a unique fashion, but it was the Lord that riveted our relationship that I know one day or places back together once again in the Lord‘s presence. although I will miss his bottle he presents our last conversations are always about the Lord Jesus. I had to share with Darrell when it happened and so many decades of the Bible that he had given to me and how many hundreds of people that the Lord has given me his spirit to minister to those from California to Pennsylvania. Justice scripture has led us that we share in this joint joy of eternal life my friend has shared with every single person that I come in contact with to share the mighty name of Jesus. All because of a Bible he shared with four translations. I love you all I appreciate my friend his family and those of us who knew him so many decades ago when we were both 17 years old.

So very sorry to hear of Darryl's passing. We meet in college.  He was a good man with so much knowledge and skills.  I am so sorry for your loss.  He will be sorely missed...I hope your memories of him will help bring some comfort. My sincere condolences to the family.

As I get ready to see my dad for the last time in a couple hours I can just think about how we would get together to go pick out our suits, touch up on each other fit’s, shave, and getting this kiddos ready.  He was always sharp and ready to hop into a suits for a special event.  Today will hit hard and I want this to be a celebration of life and not sorrows all day.  He’s healthy, dancing around and singing at the top of his lungs right now.  I know this weight is so heavy and I have been on go mode since his passing because that’s how I know to move from him.  No work calls, emails, or energy towards work today dad.  It’s all about you and I’m going to try and be as strong as I can be for the family.  I miss my hero and the man who never turned his back on me no matter what.  Rest easy my man I’ll take it from here.  I’ll always love you.

Have worked with you for years and I was very sad to hear of your passing.  You honestly were always a bright spot in a day filled with sometimes chaos in this industry.  Whenever I saw you on the schedule for a notary, I knew that things would get taken care of.  Heck even when things would get canceled you were always willing to help me in any way possible.   You were one of the nicest human beings I have ever dealt with on a daily basis.  My heart goes out to your family, you will be missed my friend!

Darryl was a phenomenal man!!! I had the opportunity to meet him through my dad, his best friend, Sill Davis.  He was an amazing family man and man of God. He helped me through a few professional transitions. I am so grateful that he gave my Dad over 30 years of friendship. He supported him, prayed for him, encouraged and carried him.

Darryl, while I know it’s not the same, I will try to take care of poppa like you did.

Darryl has been such a light to us at church. He took our son Tre under his wing in the media department and once Tre learned from Darryl he always wanted to stay in the back with the media team. Darryl was such an encourager to our son and us. Tre has often stated “Mr Darryl was the coolest guy I knew.” He always was positive and had the best laugh. We could always count on him to worship with us in the media booth. He will truly be missed and we are forever grateful to have known him. Our deepest condolences to the family. 

What words does one say to the family of a man for whom “words of affirmation” were his undeniable gift? It was a gift that he shared willingly, unapologetically, and from which we all benefited on many occasions.  Darryl was a light and an inspiration to all who crossed his path. He always had a kind word, encouraging advise, a huge smile, and a bigger heart. The culture and spirit of The Well Church were deeply influenced by his positive spirit and “can do” approach to any task. We will greatly miss him.

Darryl & Jennetta, a couple that loves Jesus Christ, joined our OCBF Marriage Ministry Small Group in 2011.  Immediately, we knew they were a valuable asset to our group. Even when they became apart of the Well Church plant, the Claiborne’s were committed to the couple’s group for marriage enrichment. Darryl expressed gratitude for each couple in the group. He was an encourager and appreciative of the Biblical insight and different perspectives of the couples. As a deep thinker, he would add profound biblical observations as he lead a Bible study session.
Darryl always wanted to grow as a husband and father. He would find marriage conferences to attend to grow their marriage. Darryl was very humble and a genuinely transparent individual. His Spirit of gratefulness and thankfulness was endearing as he shared the Lord Jesus favor and blessing, over his life, family, ministry, and career. He was an adoring husband, father, and grandfather.  
We remembered their marriage vow renewal. Darryl meticulously planned every detail of the celebratory reaffirmation of their commitment to one another, location, food, and music. The couples group knew Jennetta’s favorite color was yellow. Darryl and Jennetta took dance lessons, and he was very excited to dance with his bride. 
We observed Darryl as a patient man willing to volunteer and be a blessing to others. We will certainly miss his great sense of humor, kindness, tender heart and Godly attitude with a smile.

Darryl was such a positive influence to everyone he encountered. So encouraging and so enthusiastic. He truly embodied what it meant to be the light.  Benjamin and I were blessed to build a relationship with Darryl and we are honored to have known him.  Our deepest condolences to you, Jennetta and family. We are praying for you. 

Noel and I started attending The Well when  the church was just one year old. Darryl was one of the first people we met. In the early years he oversaw the budget (in addition to the MANY other hats he wore). I remember him reporting on the finances at one of the first member meetings; I was struck by his thoughtfulness and focus on fiscal stewardship. He was a faithful steward of all God entrusted to him. 

I was equally struck by Darryl’s servant leadership. He was always ready and willing to serve with wisdom, excellence, and humility, never needing to take credit or be in front. 

Darryl was so kind and tender-hearted. He had a wonderful way of making people feel seen and heard and important.

He was also a constant support, always showing up for The Well and The Specs Movement in whatever capacity. I remember when he showed up at Specs Movement event having just finished a hot yoga class! 

Darryl was generous in sharing his time and his expertise. He offered to help me with a variety of HR questions and issues regarding my business on multiple occasions, and when he gave advice it was always incredibly insightful, wise, and on point. He was unassuming in the breadth and depth of his intellectual astuteness.

Darryl, your presence will be sorely missed by your family at The Well. You occupied a space that was special and uniquely you that no one can fill. We all await the day we are reunited with you at the feasting table where pain and sorrow will have no place. Thanks for the man you were and the legacy you left. 



We will always remember Darryl's welcoming spirit, contagious laugh and funny remarks everytime we saw him at The Well Church. We are so sad to hear of his passing but we are certain that he has met his Father and Savior face to face! We love you Jeannetta and will be praying for you. I have met many pastors, prophets and preachers in my life, but the most Christ like person I’ve ever come across was Darryl.  Like David, Darryl was a man after God’s own heart.  Thank you, Darryl for the example you’ve given me.  I will never forget it or you as long as I live.

Darryl is everyone’s biggest cheerleader! His positivity and encouragement exuded throughout his spirit with all that he did. From managing tech to folding baby clothes for the garage sale. I am forever grateful fir the time I had with him. 

We had the privilege to fellowship with Darryl and Jennetta for several years in our Couples Bible Study group.  Darryl was always warm, caring, encouraging and transparent.  He enjoyed the fellowship of fellow believers.  This spirit extended beyond the group.  Oftentimes when seeing him at the gym in the mornings, he took time to ask about how specific things were going in your life.  A few years back, when our son had surgery in Houston, he and Jennetta came to visit and encourage him while he recovered. It was great to see him and Jennetta in recent weeks.  We continue to pray that Jennetta and her family feel the love and comfort of God during this time.

When we arrived at The Well, Darryl was one of the members who welcomed us with open arms. He had a servant’s heart & was always hard at work serving our church family in whatever place was needed. Hey Papa,  I wasn’t ready for you to be gone.  I wish there was more things we could’ve  talked about but even though I wasn’t ready I know you were.  It’s peaceful now knowing that you’re pain free.  I miss your smile and your voice mostly.  You laugh was so powerful I could hear it through a full audience.  On the darkest days your smile could bring the sun back.  You were one of my biggest supporters.  Papa you always made sure to be there at almost every event huge or not.  You’d always be right there outside the door for my theatre shows with the most beautiful huge smile and flowers to match.  It didn’t matter if I did a horrible job at something or did something bad, you’d be right there  with that smile to help me an let me know I was strong enough to get back up.  I admire most how you loved you family and friends passionately  and fearlessly.  You  would always try  to be the best version of yourself especially for me and my siblings.  It means the world to us. You taught us so much.  We couldn’t have asked for a more perfect Papa,  Thank you for 21 years of constant guidance and love.  I plan to still make you proud Papa.  I can’t wait to see that smile again.

We had the opportunity to fellowship with Darryl and Jennetta over the years as part of our couples small group.  We recall how welcoming,  transparent and encouraging Darryl was as a brother in Christ.  Thankfully we were able to see him and Jennetta during our recent trip to Dallas.

Losing someone you love is never easy and my thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time. Darryl and I were classmates at George Washington High. We continued our friendship at Cal State University Northridge where we both majored in Engineering. There he did something phenomenal. Darryl graduated in four years with a bachelor's degree in Engineering. Unheard-of, back then it took pretty close to 5 years to get an engineering degree. I had the pleasure and privilege of working with and learning from Darryl during my 25 years at Frito-Lay. We both grew up in Los Angeles and I had the pleasure of follow in his footsteps leading Distribution at the Modesto site. 

Recently, Renee and talked about having dinner with both of you at your home in the Dallas area. A memory we have always cherished. I always recall Darryl’s love for God,  his family and friends.

Watching you study the Word,  calling me to make sure I have lunch or just letting me know that you are doing something for one of the grandkids. I am so sorry to hear of Darryl’s passing. We were colleagues at PepsoCo. I worked in NY and although we did not interact often, when I saw him he always greeted me with a smile and an authentic hug and hello. He could change your day with his positivity. And greatly admired your relationship and the wonderful pleasure of seeing the photos of your renewal ceremony in Hawaii.
