Dan Stansbury was born on June 10, 1932 in Chippawa Falls, Wisconsin to Dan and Blanche Rising Stansbury. He died on July 4, 2016. Dan was a fine husband, father and grandfather and a true friend. He was a lifetime conservative Republican, a canny investor, a lawyer’s lawyer, the consummate gentleman - a good Christian man. He graduated from Highland Park High School in 1950. In 1949 he won the State Interscholastic League Doubles Tennis Championship with Wayne Bennett representing HPHS. He and Walton Miller won the 1950 Junior State Doubles Championship and were ranked number one in the state. Dan was ranked sixth in Junior Singles in 1950 and that same year he and Walton were ranked eighteenth nationally in junior doubles. Dan attended Southern Methodist University and graduated with a BBA in 1954 and a JD in 1959. While at SMU he was a three time letterman in Tennis and still holds the record for the highest all-time winning percentage in singles in 1953 going 14-0. While at SMU he served as President of his fraternity, Phi Delta Theta and is a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.
He was on active duty in the United States Air Force from 1955-1957. He met his wife, Joan Lively, at SMU and they were married in 1954. Dan was active in University Park where he served on the Board of Adjustment for fourteen years and the City Council where he was Mayor Pro-Tem. His other civic activities include the SMU Alumni Association Board of Directors, Past President of the SMU Dads’ Club, Park Cities-North Dallas YMCA Board of Management, and was Chief Usher at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church where his family were founding members. He was a member of Dallas Country Club, Texas Delta Investment Club, Turtle Creek Breakfast Club, Hillcrest Lodge #1318 and Highland Park Alumni Association.

Dan is survived by his wife of 61 years, Joan; daughter Margaret Ann Smith and her husband, Willie and their children Tyler, Daniel and Courtney Shirley and her husband Alex all of Edmond, Oklahoma; son Dan W. Stansbury, Jr. and his wife Christina and their children Shelby and Whit; daughter Susan Krejs and her husband, Patrick and their children, Patrick, Jack and William; his brother-in-law, Jack W. LIvely and his wife Barbara and their children Jennifer and Melinda and her husband Simon and their children Ophelia and Hugo all of Dallas.
A Service for Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 9 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, 8011 Douglas with a reception following the service at the church.
