Daniel was born on May 2, 1930 in Cameron, Texas and after his family moved to Dallas in 1944, Daniel attended Crozier Tech High School and enlisted in the United States Army, seeing combat duty in Korea. Upon returning to Dallas, he joined Reliable Battery Company, serving for 38 years as a technician until 1992, and enjoyed nearly three decades of retirement thereafter.
A member of St. Monica Catholic Church for 56 years, he served as an usher for a number of years. His most prized activity was as a volunteer baseball coach at St. Monica from 1974 through 1986, and helped the Bearcats earn three city championships for the junior high division. He spoke fondly of all his players and remembered countless memories of each player he coached. "Coach Rod" stressed the value of education through sports, becoming young men for others.
Daniel is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucille of Monticello, Minnesota, children Danny (Maureen), Roman, and Monica Carson (Brian), five grandchildren (Emma, Noah, Katherine, Sophia, and Faith), brothers John and Joe, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents Daniel and Reyes (Alva) Rodriguez, and brothers and sisters Isaac, Abel, Ophelia Viviero, and Celia Rocha.
Our comfort in losing Daniel is that we know where he is and that his earthly father and Heavenly Father were there to greet him. We give glory to God and recall the Lord's response to those who keep his word: "well done, good and faithful servant".
