Curtis R. Fling, age 94, passed away on May 9, 2023, in Garland, Texas. He was born on June 14, 1928, in Royse City, Texas. His parents were Joe Allen Fling and Rosa Lee Walker Fling. He graduated from Royse City High School in 1946. During his senior year he was the star running back for the 10-0 Royse City Bulldogs and voted "The Most Popular Boy''. He went on to proudly serve in Korea as a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1952 - 1954. Curt married Joyce Hahnl, the love of his life in 1953, and together they had three children. Curt worked in sales at Southwestern Typographics for more than 40 years.
Curt was an athlete his whole life. Golf was his specialty, but he was always good at everything - tennis, fishing, boating, pitching washers and horseshoes, dominos and playing card tricks. He loved watching football and the Price is Right, but he's probably best known as always doing something; always building and managing projects that make things better and newer.
Curt's family and friends will always remember him as a great man, a guy's guy. His golf buddies call him a Legend. He was faithful, loyal and hard working. He was a gentleman who was fun, with a great sense of humor. He was a Christian whose faith was important and private to him.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce Fling; parents, Rosa Lee Walker Fling and Joe Allen Fling; sister, Florine Fling Nash (90); and brother, Joe Allen Fling, Jr. (17).
Curt is survived by his brother Ken Fling (100), sons Gary (Vicki) and Mike (Leslie), and his daughter, Kim Wilson (Al). He had 6 grandkids and 5 great grandkids.
He will be greatly missed.
