Cloteal Boysaw

Cloteal Boysaw was born April 12, 1940, in Crockett, Texas to parents Cleopha and Ivory Scurlark. The Scurlark’s relocated to Stanton Texas where they were one of two families who attended the Church of Christ in Stanton. Cloteal, known as “Clo” to family and friends was one of four children. Clo’s belief in God and dedication to being the best Christian she could be culminated in her meeting the Christian man of her dreams; James Edward Boysaw. After a glorious courtship, they wed in June 1960 and ultimately relocated to Monahans, Texas in 1963 where they joined Shiloh Baptist Church. They both became soldiers for Christ, Clo as Church Secretary & Deaconess, and James a Senior Elder and Deacon. Clo and James have four children; Carl James Boysaw, LaSandra Boysaw (Conley), Ricky Boysaw, and Kenya Boysaw.

Clo was a creative and multi-talented person. She excelled at sewing and arts and crafts. One of her proudest moments was fabricating her only daughter’s lovely wedding dress. She was also a master at making beautiful quilts, ceramic figurines, paintings, and dolls. Her house was always decorated handsomely with seasonal decorations for all holidays. It was a true joy to indulge her in discussions about arts and crafts.

Clo's career was marked by enthusiasm and love of helping people. She worked at the West Texas Children’s Home as a qualified Case Worker for over ten years. She also used her math skills as a H&R Block Tax preparer for several years. In order to continue helping people, Clo worked part-time at Sears & Roebuck in Odessa, Texas for multiple years impacting everyone she touched. Both Clo and James were proud pioneers and organizers of the Monahan’s Juneteenth celebration as well as the Annual “3rd Sunday in August” Family Reunion in Rusk, Texas. Clo was surrounded by absolutely wonderful siblings and in-laws. Her two sisters and her brother were her foundation—not a day went by that she didn’t engage with one of them to see how their day went and just to say “I Love You”! It was virtually the same with her in-laws; often times poking fun at each other or just being a listening ear.

Clo would like to be remembered for relying on one of her favorite scripture--Psalms 103:1-22. Clo was preceded in death by both parents; Husband—James Edward Boysaw in 2015; Brother—Troy Lee Scurlark in 2024;.
