He served two years in the United States Army during which time he earned the nickname “Jack” which he was called the rest of his life. Jack married Allie Louisa (Lou) Wilmoth in 1949. They lived in Dallas, TX before moving to Rockwall in 1998 and were married 67 years. Jack worked for Taylor Publishing Company 21 years and was trained to be a Lithographer. After leaving Taylor’s he worked for The Suburban Tribune and later opened his own business, C. Jack Smith Printing. Jack was a member of Rylie Christian Church. He enjoyed talking to people and was an avid reader.
Jack was preceded in death by his father, Clifford Smith and wife, Bettieann; mother, Dessa Kraft and husband, Otto; sister, Amelia Michau and husband, Mitch.
Jack is survived by his wife, Lou Smith; daughters, Susan Lambe and husband Joe, and Barbara Kovar and husband Ken; grandchildren, Bradley Thompson, Brittany Thompson, James Lambe, Carol Lambe Lightfoot and husband Jerry, and Clayton Kovar; great-grandson, Joseph Lightfoot; brother, Walter Smith and wife Bonnie; sisters, D’Ann Durbin, Leslie Reichert and husband George, Leahray Wroten and husband John, and Marydell Norris; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Visitation will be Thursday, June 2 from 6 to 8pm, and Funeral Services will be Friday, June 3 at 2:00pm, all at Grove Hill Funeral Home, and will be followed by Interment at Grove Hill Memorial Park.
