Christine was born on August 19, 1934 in Pin Oak, Robertson County, Texas to the late Rev. Rozelle and Eva Mae Gray. Christine was raised in the Methodist church and her husband, Chuck was Catholic. So, to keep peace in the family, they joined Mount Olive Lutheran Church in South Dallas under the leadership of Pastor Mark B. Herbener.
In 1968, Chuck's employer promoted him to Regional Manager and moved the family to Nassau in the Bahamas. There, they attended Nassau Lutheran Church. The family lived in Nassau until 1971 when they moved to the Bay Area in California where they lived for several years. They settled in Alameda and attended Immanuel Lutheran Church. In 1977 Christine, Chuck and Chet moved back to Dallas and settled in the Red Bird area of Oak Cliff. They transferred their church affiliation back to Mount Olive Lutheran and both were very active for many years. Christine was an integral part of the church's outreach programs. She set up the day care center and the food pantry and Chuck was elected President of the Congregation for several terms.
Christine went back to college part-time and after several years graduated from junior college, then went on to the University of Texas at Dallas where she received a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. After UTD she attended Texas Wesleyan University to pursue a Masters of Special Education but she wasn't done yet. After graduating from TWU, she went on to the master’s program at Prairie View for a Masters of Education in Educational Administration. Finally, after 20 years in education, Christine retired.
In retirement, Christine was able to work on her creative side. She made beautiful Christmas stockings, tote bags, children’s sleeping bags and quilts with her daughter. While in good health, Christine and Paula traveled around the state to regional quilt shows.
Christine was also instrumental in organizing the biannual Morrow Gray Jones Chew family reunions. Her input will be greatly missed.
