The word that always comes to mind when I think of Barry is "gusto." Barry brought exuberance wherever he went.

We served together at the US Army Information Office at Long Binh, Republic of Vietnam, in 1968-69. I remember the night he got a phone call at our office telling him of the birth of his daughter Jennifer. He was over the moon, naturally, and I've always been proud to be the first of the IO gang to share his excitement.

We'd meet only every five years or so but every time and for every one of us, Barry made the reunions an event.  A great friend and raconteur.

My greatest joy, was seeing Barry and Nicole at the Meyerson and Winspear, and Wyly and getting that big bear hug.  Barry was so generous with his love for Challenge Air for Kids and friends. I will miss those hugs whenever I see him.

We were privileged to become friends with Barry through our dear friend Nicole. We enjoyed many dinners together.  Barry was always so interesting and so much fun. We were also delighted to see him as an actor. He was truly a man of many talents.  He lived life to the fullest and will be missed by many. Mary Boyd and Robert Ekstrom

Still shocked Barry is no longer with us.  But, his way was the way I hope I can “check out”.  Only knew Barry as my Prof.  He had some amazing speakers and we got to tour the printing presses in Plano.
Tried to break bread with Barry and Nicole but he kept saying Nicole was too busy.  Now it is too late!!  I counted Barry as my friend.  He definitely got us to focus on the source of the story and the leaning of the paper or group.   I am so glad I signed up for his last “current events” class.  I am glad I got to see him act.  I enjoyed that Barry wanted to keep learning too.  Will miss you  a lot Barry.

We had the good fortune to meet Barry through our good friend Nicole. So we knew him as a retired but still incredibly active member of the Dallas community. We treasure the times we were together with Barry and Nicole, including our last visit to Dallas in April. We are honored to have known Barry and will miss him greatly.

Barry was a wonderful neighbor, always friendly and helpful. I'll miss seeing his beloved red Jaguar roll up in his driveway.  He will be, and already is, missed.

While I knew Barry in Jr High and High School before he moved off to New York, our careers took us both far from one another and from Dallas. Like Barry, after retirement I moved back to Dallas and joined the great group of classmates on the BA Reunion Committee. Barry was stalwart contributor and a joy to be around. His sudden, unexpected passing is a shock to us all and we will miss him dearly.

I met Barry in 1989.  He had a booming voice and a firm handshake.  I was intimidated by his physical presence and his status.  I visited him  at his editorial offices at Gannet.  Many of the staff surrounded him asking questions.   He didn't appear to be stressed and smiled often.  He made time for me and provided practical advice. I was glad to know him and his beautiful family.

Since I transferred to Bryan Adams in 10th grade, I didn't know Barry in high school, but loved the stories of those who grew up with him.  And I was privileged to work closely with him on the reunion committee since 2014.  Barry was enthusiastic about our reunions and loved participating with the committee meetings and lunches.   Our group became like a family after planning two very successful reunions 5 years apart.  Barry always had great suggestions for our reunions and, through his Press Club contacts, was able to find a  photographer for the last reunion who graciously agreed to our limited budget.  We are heartbroken and will miss him dearly.

I only had the privilege of knowing Barry for a short time through the Prestonwood Rotary Club.  He will forever be the “This day in history” man.
