Since early September, Cecilia had been living at her daughter Julia Garton’s home with Mike Schoder on White Rock Lake. There she spent her days outside on the patio peacefully watching the lake, the sunsets, bird migration, and the local community running and biking the trails. Our family will be forever grateful for the quality time we enjoyed and memories we created in her final months.
Cecilia was born in Little Rock, Arkansas to Kenneth and Bessie Coffelt on December 20, 1944. She went to school in Jacksonville, Arkansas where she and her twin sister were high school cheerleaders. She earned her Bachelor of Science Degree from Arkansas State Teachers College in Conway.
She then earned her Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Texas in Austin. She was credentialed by the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners, the National Association of Social Workers, and the American Board of Examiners in Clinical Social Work. Cecilia was a Social Worker for Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital for seventeen years serving patients and their families. She later worked for Cigna and Blue Cross as a Case Manager. Throughout her career, she maintained a private counseling practice focused on individual and family therapy.
During retirement, Cecilia continued to serve her community as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels and the Juliette Fowler Garden. Cecilia also earned her Texas Master Gardener certification in 2019. She had a love for gardening and playing golf. Cecilia also enjoyed cooking and entertaining family and friends in her home, and she had an appreciation for fine art and antiques.
Cecilia is preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Bessie Coffelt, and her sister, Rosemary Brandt.
Cecilia is survived by her loving daughters Julia Garton of Dallas (Mike Schoder) and Laura Heims of Dallas (Anthony Heims), and her twin sister Charlotte Marshall of Sumter, South Carolina.
The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Cecilia’s medical oncologist, Dr. Jaya Jurturi, and to Amity Hospice, for their kindness, compassion, and medical expertise.
In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer green plants or a donation be made in Cecilia’s honor to Visiting Nurse Association Meals on Wheels of Dallas. https://www.vnatexas.org/our-services/meals-on-wheels/
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.calvaryhilldallas.com for the Garton family.
