Benny Hopper, age 86, passed away on January 1, 2023 in Richardson, Texas. He was born on February 13, 1936 in Dallas, Texas to John Wesley Hopper and Katie Hopper. Benny was raised in Oak Cliff in Dallas, Texas where he graduated from Adamson High School in 1954. He attended the University of Texas in Arlington. Benny also served in the United States Airforce Reserves. He married Mary Evelyn Dance, the love of his life, in 1960 and the couple had two children. Benny worked as a Mechanical Engineer, and owned his own design firm, which he ran for over 35 years.
In his spare time, Benny was a dedicated, lifelong member of Southern Baptist churches, having served in various leadership roles through the years. He was also a faithful member of the church choirs. Benny was blessed with a wonderful tenor voice, and sang in the prestigious Dallas Opera chorus for over 30 years. He had an adventurous spirit, and also loved traveling. Benny's family and friends will always remember him as a very generous person who worked hard to provide for his family. He was a loving husband, father, and friend.
Benny is preceded in death by his father, John W. Hopper; stepfather, James Cavanaugh; and his mother, Katie Cavanaugh. He is survived by two daughters and two son-in-laws: Kellie Hopper Tarry and Jonathan Tarry; Stacey Hopper Hardy and Shawn Hardy; and step-daughter, Hannah Hardy.
A visitation/reception for Benny will be held Tuesday, January 10, 2023 from 4:30 to 8:00pm at Grove Hill Funeral Home, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, TX 75228. The Hopper family will be having a Memorial Service for Benny on January 18, 2022 at 2pm at First Baptist Church (Truett Chapel), 1707 San Jacinto St., Dallas, TX 75201.
