On September 11, 2023, our sweet baby girl, Avery Hélène, went to be with the Lord in heaven. Avery was born with the rarest terminal genetic muscular dystrophy disorder, Walker Warburg Syndrome. In her fifteen months of life, however, she truly proved to the world that our souls are so much stronger than our earthly bodies. Despite the difficult diagnoses and prognoses, Avery was such a happy baby girl who loved soft stuffed animals and blankets, her piggy WubbaNub, being held and talked to, music, LED lights, and her two live stuffed animals – her corgis.
Avery is preceded in death by her maternal great grandparents, Hélène and Joseph Guajardo; paternal great grandparents, Leonard and Betty Huschka and Jolene and Carrol Arthur Bundrant; and great aunts, Roslyn Cernosek and Dora Elizabeth Muñoz. She is survived by her loving parents, Stephen and Nicole Huschka; maternal grandparents, Jeanette Guajardo and Leo Muñoz (Kim Walker); paternal grandparents, Melissa Scherer (Jeff Scherer) and James Huschka (Kassy Coleman); maternal great grandparents, Leo and Janie Muñoz; maternal aunt and uncle and Godparents, Garret and Ana Muñoz; paternal aunts, Karen Scherer and Klahryn Huschka; and cousins, Mia and Emersyn Muñoz, along with many other aunts, uncles, and cousins, including: Jimmie Cernosek and Cathy Schmidt; Greg and Debbie Cernosek and sons; Tony and Becky Muñoz and daughters; Taylor Walker and son; and Renee and Chance McGrath and children. She is also survived by her devoted nanny, Isabella Mills (Alexander Mills) who loved her immensely. Lastly, she is survived by her fur-siblings, her corgis who adored her, Theodore “Teddy” and Eleanor “Ellie.”
We would be remiss if we did not mention that Avery leaves behind an entire community of people who helped her parents during times of need and loved Avery like she was one of their own. The entire Dallas legal community will forever be a part of her family.
Avery’s life had—and continues to have—meaning. While we are overcome with grief, sadness, anger, and doubt at this time, we must have faith in the Lord and faith that he knew Avery only needed fifteen months to touch our lives in a way that will change us forever. The Lord knew that Avery could accomplish her purpose within fifteen months. Avery taught us compassion and empathy toward others, especially those with disabilities and special needs – a group which is often overlooked and not seen. Because of Avery, We See You. Second, Avery taught us that tomorrow is never guaranteed. If there is something you want to do or say, do it today—do not wait for tomorrow. Lastly, Avery taught us that the soul is so much stronger than the body, and even though Avery’s body failed her, her soul shone so brightly through it, and you could feel her sweetness radiating from it.
