2021 at the age of 93, after a brief illness.
Born in Atholville, on 1 April, 1928, the daughter of Henry Dunn and Dora Hutchison, Dorothy
was the eldest daughter in a family of eleven children. Dorothy grew up with a passion for
education and teaching, leaving Shannonvale for Teacher’s College in Fredericton after high
school. The many train trips back and forth between home and college is where she met the
love of her life, Burnie Walsh. They married and settled in Shannonvale and later Dalhousie
where they made their home.
Dorothy spent many years teaching at Dalhousie’s Don Bosco School, The Academy, L.E.R. and
working for the local school district. She enjoyed meeting her former students around town and
discovering the impact she had on their lives.
She was predeceased by her husband, Burnie Walsh and daughter Gail as well as both parents
and her eight brothers, Arnold, Henry, Carl, Arthur, Ernest, Ivan, Rundle, and Albert.
Left to celebrate her life are daughter Deb Walsh (Charlie Dean), son Todd Walsh (Jennifer),
grandchildren Dax Nitishin (Sonya), MacKenzie Donovan-Walsh and Cassidy Walsh and great
grandchildren Nixon and Jaxen Nitishin, sisters Maxine Glencross and Merica Robinson and
many nieces, nephews and friends.
