Born in West Los Angeles, CA at her home on March 19, 1941. Margarita Martinez grew up in West Los Angeles and that’s where her love for family and friends began. She attended Nora Sterry School and when St. Sebastian’s School opened, she attended school there. She is a graduate of Saint Monica’s Catholic High School, class of 1959. She recently went to her 60th High School reunion where she reminisced on old times with her friends.
Margarita “Margie” as everyone called her, married her husband of 51 years, William Johnson in 1966. She may have allowed Bill to be the face of the Johnson family, however Margie kept everyone in line and truly held the family together with her unconditional love and dedication.
She spent over 30 years as a tax professional for H&R Block Santa Monica until recently when she had to retire to due to diminishing health. This was Margie’s second family. She built life-long friendships with co-workers and clients. It was rare to hear anyone say anything negative about her as her hard work was second none. Margie worked many 12-16 hours days with her “Girls”. Margie always talked about her “Girls” at work. She loved them more than anything. They were more than friends, they were her extended family.
Margie also worked as a teacher’s aide at St. Sebastian’s prior to becoming a tax professional. She did that for several years and impacted many lives in a positive way during her time there.
She is survived by her 3 children: 2 sons, Ernie (Christina) and Eric and daughter, Christina Johnson. 5 grandchildren: Larissa (Deron) Scott, Ryan, Sean, Jaxon and Abel and 2 great grandsons, Gaven and Grady. She is also survived by 3 brothers: Floyd (Lencho), John and Tony and 2 sisters, Rosemary and Frances (Rick) Coffee.
Margie will always be remembered by her passion, unconditional love, work ethic and loyalty to her faith, family and friends. From her smile and gentle touch, her compassion and understanding, and her everlasting love for her children/grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was described as a smart/beautiful/dedicated woman who loved everyone that came across her. Her dedication/work ethic/loyalty and unconditional love are the traits that rubbed off on everyone that came across her. Margie will be missed by everyone.
