Betty Lou Edwards

Betty Lou Edwards, age 95, of Long Beach, California passed away on Sunday, July 16, 2023. Betty was the last surviving daughter of Charlotte Louise Richter and Joseph Warren Richter. Betty is survived by her daughter Wendy Lynn Pozo and her family.

The visitation for Betty was held Friday, July 21, 2023 from 8:30 AM to 10:30 AM at Gates, Kingsley & Gates Smith Salsbury Funeral Directors, 4220 South Sepulveda Blvd, Culver City, CA 90230. Betty's immediate family were present. Her son-in-law Carlos gave an eloquent eulogy on behalf of Betty and her family.

Following the visitation, a graveside service was held from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Inglewood Park Cemetery, 720 E Florence Ave, Inglewood, CA 90301. Betty was laid to rest beside her mother and father.

Betty was admired by her immediate family for being an independent woman and enduring many hardships throughout her life. She was very bright, in 1949 at the age of 21, she obtained a BS degree in Art from UCLA. She also studied high-level math and electrical engineering. Betty was ahead of her time, in 1958 at the age of 30, she was one of only a handful of young women who began working in a male dominated industry as an electrical engineer with Rocketdyne in Canoga Park, CA. Betty also pursued her CA teaching credentials and later became a high school substitute math teacher in Los Angeles County.

Betty was passionate about living and enjoyed painting, making jewelry, traveling, reading, classical music, art museums, studying the arts and history, and had a lifelong crush on Elvis. She was very independent and always wanted to travel, so she saved and planned a trip around the world, which she did by herself over a six-month period. Betty loved all animals and often gave what she could to various animal rescue agencies. She especially loved dogs - she called her last dog "Baby." She also enjoyed good food - cheesecake was her favorite desert.
