Bob was one of the nicest people I ever met in this world.  When I first moved here from out of state Bob & Karen treated me to the most wonderful thanksgiving dinner so I would not be alone.  Bob was always friendly, kind and outgoing.  He loved my son Brandon and he always liked when  he cooked at our parties.  He and Karen knew they were going to get something special for dinner.  He called my dad Richie one year for his birthday.  I thought that was so special of Bob.  My dad was terminally sick at the time.  Bob and Richie lived in the same neighborhood in Brooklyn, but they never met.  Now they are both in Heaven.  I sure will miss Bob.  He is one of  a kind person.

"Duffer" was extremely close and generous to the entire McMahon family: brothers Gary and Dave (ND'68), sisters Carol McMahon Young and Patty Hoey Cumming, our parents Helen and Jack McMahon, Great Aunt Jo and Uncle Charlie Rennie. 
When all but my sisters passed away, Bob was the first to arrive with love, support and comforting humor.  In their later years he was readily available to drive my mother and aunt to the airport or to enjoy a fun-filled lunch with two widows.
As the youngest, I loved hearing about my brothers' escapes with their cherished friend Duffer.  I wish I could share some of the tales but am sworn to secrecy.  May he rest in peace and joy.

Together as a family , as Jesus said love one another as I have loved you. Karen and Bob always included me in social activities whenever I could attend . Bob was a faithful catholic and his wife Karen , we need to keep them both in our prayers daily .

I got to know him during classes. He was like a brother to me , I will miss seeing him and karen 
At church, but he is at church on high may you be in heaven . I hope you get to meet Gordon  
You two would be good for each other, I was hoping I would not have to say goodbye but god is the author of life so farewell my dear friend

     Bob and I worked at LILCO and Nashville Electric together.  We remained friends long after our retirements.
     I remember someone asking Bob how long did it take him to get used to retirement and he responded "on my way to my car in the parking lot."
     Another memory is when Bob came with me to pick up two Chocolate Labs, Maggie and Murphy,  something my wife Nancy knew nothing about.  When he did not hear from me that night he drove to St. Henry's to meet me after mass making sure I still had some place to live.  Maggie and Murphy were the best as was Bob!
     I will miss you buddy. I guess I will have to continue the quest for the perfect hot dog without you.
     Today we will place flowers at the the "Duffy Rock" in  Sacred Heart Cemetery in Cutchogue.  God bless you all.  You will always be in our prayers.
     Looking forward to seeing Bobby, Mandy and kids again next summer.

There's an extra touch of sadness in my heart today.  Oh could he  make me laugh.  Bob, Dave McMahon and I came within a heartbeat of being roommates our sophomore year.  Probably a good thing for all three of us that it didn't work out.  Many years ago when I was in Rochester, NY he made a business trip and I've never forgotten the eight hour lunch we had that day.  Also never forgotten the legendary Manhattan cruise in 1961 when he and Dave chartered the   liner for a Friday night party circling Manhattan.  The duffer is a true original.  God bless his family.  I know how much he will be missed.

BOB DUFFY AND I WERE CLASSMATES AT NOTRE DAME, AND HE WAS A LOYAL FRIEND FOR OVER SIXTY YEARS.  HE WAS AN IMMENSELY TALENTED AND THOUGHTFUL MAN, WHO HOWEVER, WHEN THE MOOD STRUCK HIM, COULD CAUSE MORE CHOS IN AN HOUR THAN MOST COULD IN A LIFETIME.  THAT IS WHY HE WAS LOVED BY SO MANY FRIENDS.  MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO TO HIS DEVOTED MUCH CHERISHED WIFE KAREN, AND THEIR WONDERFUL FAMILY.  

My  Brother-in-law, Uncle to Duffy, Danny and Packy. Bob was so much more than the relationship words express. His love, kindness and sense of humor ever present. We will forever miss and love you.  Linda has her big brother back again and you both can have an eternity of love and  laughs!

On one occasion he was with us at a party where a funeral home adjoined the house.
Bob climbed into a casket posed with arms crossed and said”I’ve always wondered what it is like to be reposed in the box”.

I met Bob in 1978 when I joined the Long Island Lighting Company.  In all the years since as coworkers and friends, Bob was a joy to know. He had a gentle sense of humor and was a talented professional always generously sharing his knowledge and experience.
Bob was supported by a loving and lovely wife and his happiness showed.
He was an extraordinarily proud father and grandfather and I think we all felt we knew Bobby, Mandy and the grandkids well. I was a guest at Bobby and Mandy's wedding and I thought Bob would burst with pride.
To close on light note, I remember his joy in watching Notre Dame football with a drumstick from the Thanksgiving turkey.
I will miss our long phone calls and shared memories.

Pop-Pop... the name still brings a huge smile to my face. How could it not? My Pop-Pop was always smiling or scrunching up his nose and making his mouth into an “O” shape, sending fits of laughter to everyone in the same room as him. Moments like these were my favorite. 
     I remember going up to him and asking if he would tell me a joke. Without a moment’s hesitation,  he told me the joke that I have now been telling my friends for years. It is about a guy who goes on vacation and comes home to the lady who was his cat-sitter and she tries to explain how the cat walked off the roof. The joke takes a minute to tell because it is not any ordinary joke, It is very clever, just like my Pop-Pop. 
I only recently realized just how extremely lucky I am. I have so many amazing memories of holidays and sacraments that all of my grandparents have been there for. Although I may not have realized it before, I know I will take these special memories with me throughout life. Not only that, but I can tell my children about what a huge impact their great grandfather made on everyone in his life. I miss you Pop-Pop and I love you with all of my heart. Thank you for being such an amazing role-model in my life.

My “Pop-Pop” lived an extraordinary life. He exemplified the qualities of a loving grandfather and an even better person. I have memories of watching Notre Dame football games with him or sitting looking at maps, conversing. I’m very grateful for the 15 and a half years I spent with him. 

I will always remember the Notre Dame years when David (McMahon)and Bob were good friends .
Incredible stories of fun and laughter then and through the years were shared with our family .
Somehow no matter what the situation He saw the best in others and the humor in every experience .
The world was a better place to have had him .

My sincere condolences to you and your family.  Bob was a very unique person who enjoyed life and loved all.  I enjoyed many conversations with Bob about his family,  ND football, and our love of baseball.  My prayers for you are to cherish all the memories and have peace in knowing he is in his eternal home.

Bob leaves behind memories of kindness, love, and humor.  That was his essence. 
One story stands out  that illustrates just how he loved. Karen told me that she and Bob  had a birthday party for Bobby. It was a sleepover and several of Bobby’s friends were invited.  The morning after the sleepover Karen made breakfast for all the little boys. The adults were a bit tired after all the activities. After breakfast all the boys piled in the station wagon and Bob backed out of the driveway to take them home. About half an hour later Karen said Bob drove up the driveway with all of the birthday party boys! Party on! (again). That was Bob - Deep love for family. Whenever they visited California Bob took Bobby to a football or baseball game. I remember his adoring looks for Bobby and Karen. As for everyone else, he had a way of seeing the best in everyone. What a gift to us all, those memories that live forever. 

My memory of Bob is that he was a very devout Catholic; he expressed it on many occasions to me  by his very encouraging words.

Bob is my brother-in-law. He is in Heaven now and may he rest in peace.  Karen Duffy is my sister.
I must have been about 4 years old at their wedding. I don’t remember this, but I’m told, that when Karen and Bob where married, when they came in church, I yelled out super loud “Hi Bob”!  Anyway, I don’t remember doing that, but he told me about it a bunch of times.
I have many memories of going to Disneyland when I was a kid when they would come and visit us in California.  My mother has a picture somewhere of my brother Marc and Bob together in the morning.  It’s a simple photo of how simple life was back then.
I don’t have any memories of Bob every being negative about anything.  He never was.  His life was Joy. Even in the recent years when I knew his health wasn’t good, he always said how blessed he was.  He had a deep devotion to the Catholic church and to the Rosary and Mother Mary.  In recent years he was telling me about what Heaven was like from some of the books he was reading. He talked about it like it was his home.  I know now that it is.
Somewhere about 1991 or 1992, I went and visited Karen and Bob when they lived in Vermont. That was a memorable trip. There was one night when Bob took everyone out for Pizza.  I still remember some of the jokes he told at the dinner table. There is the one with the red salad tomatoe that becomes ill.  It’s super funny.  I’ve used that one a bunch of times.  My wife Rose knows that one really well.
I also remember how he prayed the Rosary every night with his family. There are so many more memories, but I want to tell one more.  This year, I visited Bob with my family. My son Anthony had a special liking for Bob.  Just before we left Bob was talking about how his biological family was gone but we were his family.  When we left, Anthony told me in the car that he wanted to be Bob’s family.  God bless you Bob. We miss you. We will see you in Heaven.
