She was born in Cullman, AL on November 5, 1924 to Noah S. Smith and Maude Howell Smith. Lois lived in Cullman the majority of her life and when she wasn’t there, she couldn’t wait to return to her family and friends. She selflessly focused on being a loving wife, raising her two sons and caring for her parents. Nothing gave her more joy than to see her children, grandchildren and her friends reach milestones in their lives. Over the years, she filled drawers with pictures and cut-out articles of her boys and their friend’s successes. Lois was outgoing and happiest when she was with the ones that she cherished, including her Grace Episcopal Church family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Elonza Ward and son, Steven Anderson Ward.
Lois is survived by her son and his wife, Neil and Jennifer Ward of Smyrna, Ga.; grandchildren: Allison and her husband, Ryan Langley, Steven Ward, Allen Ward and great grandchildren Isaac Langley, Rosalyn Langley and James Langley.
A private graveside service was held on Friday, April 10, 2020 at Cullman City Cemetery. A celebration of life may be held at a later date after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted. Memorial remembrances for Lois may be directed to Grace Episcopal Church, 305 Arnold Street NE, Cullman, Alabama 35055-2910.
