Tootsie was such a special man! Long ago when my son first started school (he's 18 and graduated now) My son would cry every day and not want to go to school, we always stopped at Guthrie's crossroads store to get him a snack and that's where we met Tootsie, when Tootsie found out he was crying he offered him a quarter but told him if he cried at school that Mom had to bring the quarter back to Tootsie. So every day the rest of that school year he gave him a quarter that he could keep unless he cried. My son still talks about the man at the "deer head store" that he was friends with!

Tootsie was a special man that I am blessed to have know thru the years.  Tootsie and Martha were always fun to talk to and a couple to love and admire.  We would take our kids trick or treating to them  and would see them at the kids ball games.  I(Lisa) also remember going to Tootsie's store when I was little.  You always felt good after talking to Tootsie.  I know he will be missed.

I was fortunate to have a bunch of favorite uncles and Uncle Tootsie definitely fit that bill.  Growing up as a military brat, we tried to make it back "home" at least once a year, but we never knew when that would be.  Uncle Tootsie carried some special candies around Christmas time, but we weren't always able to make it back then so he would save some in the back room so when we did make it there, he'd head to the back room and bring out our favorite candies.  As an adult, there were a few years when we had the opportunity of living within six hours of "home" and would come once a month to visit Papa and Granny.  Uncle Tootsie would always take the time to come visit with us.  I have such special memories of those times.  I'll miss your hugs, Uncle Tootsie, but I look forward to our heavenly reunion some day in the future.

My dear friend Tootsie, you left us oh too soon. Your absence makes me cry with sadness. But so many times you made me cry from laughing so very hard. Near daily, I reflect on the good times we had. Especially as we warmed the bench at the store. I especially miss our many trips you'd take us on as you would give me local history lessons. I felt like a kid when you'd say " Hey Rick, hop in." I have known no one so uplifting as you. That's just how you are. 

I always feel great when we're together. Pretty much from our tales and laughter to setting the clocks in your car radios twice a year. I'll keep it civil and not mention your flip phone needs.

Tootsie and Martha are straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. A true American success story. From financial indepedence to what I have always been so very, very impressed with; your family. 

You and Martha deserve the highest award and recognition for how your children and grandchildren have grown and prospered. And I'm certain your great-grandchildren will follow in those footsteps. From their kindness and generosity to their successes and values, I know you are most proud. 

Reckon I'll close now. Not so much words of condolence, rather my saying "Hope to see ya later my friend."

Well speaking for myself and many others, I don't know anyone who didn't like Tootsie.
He had a warmth and a likeable personality. I heard him say once that he tried to do a good thing for somebody every day. I saw this and so did others.
I attended church with the family for over 20 years. Martha, Susan, David and Tootsie have all been some of my best friends over the years.
