Ronald Lee VanScoyoc, 77 years old, of Spring Grove, Illinois passed away November 15, 2024 surrounded by his loving wife and family. He was born November 15, 1947 to Richard and Virginia VanScoyoc. He married Marguerite Albergo on October 7, 1978, and they enjoyed 46 years together. Ron graduated from the Mortuary School at Southern Illinois University. He was devoted to funeral service and held a funeral director and embalmer license for over 50 years. During his time in funeral service, Ron served as a mentor to many. His impact was felt by the families he served, the loved ones he cared for, and especially his coworkers.
Ron loved a round of golf with friends, boating, gardening, Irish whiskey, and Mickey Mouse. He had a passion for cooking – which was evident in the presentation of the food he served. Anyone who saw him knew he had great style – from his suits and vests, to his Chuck Taylor Converse shoes, and Tommy Bahama shirts. His wife and family meant the world to him. Ron and Marguerite opened their home for many family gatherings as well as to care for loved ones. Ron loved being “Uncle Ron” to his nieces, nephews, and great niece and nephews. Ron and Marguerite enjoyed traveling, they loved their visits to Disney World to see Mickey and to Chincoteague – especially when joined by family and friends.
Ron took great pride in his home, whether it was landscaping, interior design, or decorating for Christmas. His Cocker Spaniels always held a special place in his heart (as did his niece’s Yorkies). Ron was an incredibly intelligent, quick-witted man, and a gifted storyteller. Ron was strong in both body and mind, having overcome many health challenges with humor and grace. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to know him.
Ron will be greatly missed by his wife and best friend, Marguerite, his mother, Virginia VanScoyoc, his siblings, Steve VanScoyoc (Amber), Michael VanScoyoc, and Susan Kaitchuck (Scott); his sisters-in-law Paula Albergo (Gene Lehn), Laurianne (Trent) Tobias; his nieces and nephews Amy (George) Burin, Trent Joseph (TJ) (Jennifer) Tobias, Lindsey (Kyle) Quintanilla, Chrissy Kaitchuck (Ryan Scanlan), and his great nephews and niece, Brady, TC, Benny, Emma, Liam, and many extended family members.
Ron was preceded in death by his father (Richard), his in-laws Benny (Sebastian) and Henrietta Albergo, Marguerite’s uncle, Andrew (JR) who lived with Marguerite and Ron for many years, his grandparents, Marguerite’s grandparents, and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A memorial mass will be held at Prince of Peace Church in Lake Villa, Illinois on Saturday, December 14th at noon. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 11:30 AM. A Celebration of Ron’s Life to follow the service at 15 Lakes Prime Steakhouse in Antioch, Illinois.
