Robert L Schmidt

Robert L Schmidt, 87, of Crystal Lake, Illinois passed away on Saturday, November 25, 2023. Born October 28, 1936, in Effingham, Illinois to the late Frank C. and Julia Irene [Lowder] Schmidt. He married Ellene Janyce Johnson on May 30, 1964, in Chicago, Illinois.

Bob is survived by his wife; his daughters Drineen (Mark) Forman, Adria (John) Schmidtke, Laura Schmidt, and Amy (Brian) Moritz; his grandchildren Maggie and Will Forman, Zach and Amanda Schmidtke, Lauren, Scott and Garrett Hyland, and Jake, Joey, Matt, and Megan Moritz; his sister Judith Schmidt (Springfield, IL); and his brother James Schmidt (Maine). He is preceded in death by his parents.

Bob grew up in Springfield, Illinois and attended Cathedral Boys Grade School and High School. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he dedicated many years as an Altar Boy.

He spent 6 years with the U.S. Air Force active and reserve duty.

He went on to receive a Bachelor of Science in Economics at the University of Illinois, June 1958, and an M.B.A in International Business at DePaul University, February 1966. He started his career at Ford Motor Company (7 years), International Minerals and Chemical (33 years), and retiring from the Phosphate Chemical & Phosphate Rock Export Associations an Executive Vice-President.

After their marriage in 1964, Bob and Ellene spent some time in Chicago before they found their home in Crystal Lake in 1972 raising their four daughters. Bob was a member of the Crystal Lake Country Club and St. Thomas Catholic Church. During their retirement, the two enjoyed spending their winters in Naples, Florida. He was an avid Chicago Cubs fan and was proud to have witnessed the Cubs win the World Series in 2016.

In his free time, Bob was a dedicated father and grandfather. He never missed an event, activity, and most of all, graduations. His daughter’s fondest memories were the times spent in Indian Princesses through the YMCA. As a dog lover, he had a special love for his Golden Retrievers Trooper, Remy, and Gracie.

A visitation will be held Sunday December 17, 2023 from 1pm to 4pm at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014. Funeral mass will be held December 18, 2023 at 10am at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 451 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
