Scott E. Auer

Scott E. Auer, 61 years of age, peacefully passed away on Friday, August 11, 2023, at home surrounded by his loving family, after bravely fighting a long battle with cancer. Scott was born on October 4, 1961, in Columbia City, IN to the late Glenn and Sharon (Wilson) Auer. On February 20th, 1988, Scott married his beautiful wife, Carole Kosiarek, and their life was blessed with three daughters. Scott graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelors in packaging engineering while playing as a division one offensive lineman. His football career carried over to the NFL, where he was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs. Following football, he spent 35 dedicated years working in the corrugated industry with International Paper. Scott enjoyed spending time with his family, listening to his “tunes,” sports, woodworking and, most of all, fishing on Lake Michigan with his best friend, Harry. He is survived by his loving wife, Carole, of 35 years; daughters, Nikki (Alex) Szewciw, Jamie Auer, and Ali (Alfredo) Cantu; three granddaughters, Layla, Bennett, and Ava Szewciw; two sisters, Kelly (John) Metzger, and Lori (Tim) Schulz; nieces, Erica, Abby, Annika, and Nadia; nephews, Neil, AJ, Nick, Zack, and Gaven; as well as many other close family and friends. Scott’s last month was spent toasting his memories and joyfully celebrating his life. His sense of humor and loving gentle spirit will forever be remembered. A Memorial Visitation for Scott will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307, followed by a Memorial Service beginning at 3:00 PM. Pastor Tim Huizenga will be officiating. In Lieu of Flowers - Scott's favorite place on the earth was Maui. Memorials of donor's choice to support the people of Maui are requested.
