Our first home in Croton was across the street from "Jack" and Helen.  They were the first neighbors to welcome us, coming over with a beautiful, refreshing bowl of cut up cantaloupe on a hot summer day.  We knew right away that we made the right decision, choosing a loving and welcoming community.  And that was our relationship with them for many years - loving and welcoming.  Our boys would catch a fish in the Hudson, we would share some with the Megleys and Helen would send some back in a delicious fish chowder (said with her Boston accent).  We would visit on their back patio and Helen would always have cookies for the boys.  Years later when we moved away to a different home in Croton, we would visit with mallomars, which she said were a favorite.  We miss Jack - the wafting smell of his pipe on the front porch, our chats as we sat with him on a summer evening.  Jack passed right before our Jack was born in 2007 - notice the names.  I envision Helen and Jack sitting together again - the sweet smell of Jack's pipe, Helen with a big plate of cookies - they are together again.  I am so glad we were able to know them.  

Hearing of Helen's passing has brought back so many sweet memories of quick visits and times in Croton with our parents.  Dad (Phil Reed) always said that he cherished the friendship our parents forged all those years ago. Who would have guessed that a commute on Metro North would bring such a lasting friendship. May God grant you comfort and peace knowing that your Mom is resting in the loving arms of our Savior. Sue
