Dorothy Ehret Hines, 91, of Croton on Hudson, New York, passed away on March 16, 2020, at the Hudson Valley Hospital in Cortlandt Manor, New York. Dorothy was born in New York City on March 27, 1928, to Dorothy de la Mare Ehret and William Frederick Ehret. She grew up in Oradell, New Jersey, and was a 1946 graduate of Dwight Morrow High School in Englewood. In New York City, she earned a B.A. in Fine Arts at Pratt Institute in 1949 and took courses in textile design at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 1954, she married Jesse Paul Farber in the New Town Hall in Munich, Germany, and they lived in Amberg, Germany, Paris, France, and the kibbutz Hulata in Israel. Upon their return to the U.S., they raised three children in New York City and Hastings-on-Hudson. Dorothy subsequently moved to Croton on Hudson and married Ollie Calvin Hines in 2001. Dorothy was an accomplished artist and prolific painter, and was a member of the Upstream Gallery, now located in Hastings-on-Hudson. Dorothy is predeceased by her parents, Dorothy de la Mare Ehret and William Frederick Ehret. She is survived by her husband, Ollie Hines, and her three daughters, Amy, Lisa, and Ariel Farber. Dorothy is survived by five grandchildren: Jesse Guterman, Anna Guterman, Michael DeVito, Paul DeVito, and David DeVito. She is survived by her sister, Elisabeth Beebe of Camillus, New York, Elisabeth’s husband, David Beebe, and their children, Ann and Bill Beebe. Family members also include Jesse Farber, Will Guterman, Anthony DeVito, Carrie H. Lewis, Beverly Spencer, Kathryn Wentz, Nancy and Robert Johnson, Ted de la Mare, Beth Scholfield, Carol Wilson, Lynne McClure, and Rachael O'Tier. In place of a funeral, the family will arrange a memorial for Dorothy in the coming months.
