John Gregory Lewis

John Gregory “Greg” Lewis, 62, of Hamlin, passed away on April 9, 2024, at Emogene Dolin Jones Hospice House in Huntington. He transitioned to a brand-new life by grace through faith in Jesus Christ with our Heavenly Father. He was born on November 30, 1961, in Charleston, the son of Shirley O’Neill Lewis-Hall, of Scott Depot, and the late Hubert Keith Lewis. He is preceded in death by his father and his brother, David Keith Lewis.

True to his Irish heritage dating back to the 16th century, the O’Neill clan was renowned for their bravery, intelligence, and strategic thinking. Greg inherited these remarkable traits from his ancestors, embodying their spirit throughout his life. Like the O’Neill’s, Greg displayed immense bravery, facing life's challenges with courage and determination. Whether it was battling illness, overcoming obstacles in his career, or standing up for what he believed in, Greg faced every situation head-on, just as his ancestors did on the battlefield. Greg exhibited the wisdom and foresight characteristic of his Irish lineage. He approached challenges with a thoughtful and analytical mindset, offering guidance and support to those around him. His strategic approach to problem-solving mirrored the cunning strategies employed by his ancestors to outmaneuver their adversaries. In essence, Greg Lewis embodied the spirit of the O'Neill clan, drawing strength from his Irish heritage and leaving a legacy of bravery, intelligence, and strategic thinking for all who knew him.

Greg graduated from South Charleston High School in 1980 and continued his education at WVU, where he earned a 4-year degree in Exercise Physiology. While pursuing his degree, Greg served as the Mountaineer Mascot. In our opinion, the best Mountaineer WVU ever had. He further pursued his passion for helping others by earning a Physical Therapy associate degree from Fairmont State. Greg dedicated his career to helping others as a Physical Therapy Associate at CAMC Memorial Hospital as well as various home health and long-term care positions in West Virginia, Ohio, and Texas. He had a passion for WVU sports, was an avid reader, and enjoyed spending time outdoors.

He will be remembered as a loving son, brother, uncle, and companion by all who knew him. Greg is survived by his mother, Shirley O’Neill Lewis-Hall, brothers Steven Edward Lewis of Roanoke, and Charles Wesley Lewis (Concepcion) of Culloden, his uncle George O’Neill of Longs, South Carolina, aunt Patricia Wilson of Canton, Michigan, aunt Sharon Burgess of St. Albans, nieces Jordan Craigo (Samuel) and Rachel Townsend (Adam), two great-nieces, three great-nephews, his companion Judy Raflores, stepchildren Leo (Rayven), Judyanne, Jeff (Alicia), and John Michael (Kay), step-grandchildren Alexander, Serena, Mikayla, and Milagros, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastor Travis Bradley officiating. The gathering of family and friends will be from 2pm until the time of service at the funeral home.
