Wednesday, August 30, 2023, we lost our loving mother and matriarch, Frances Grace (Finney) Ray after a short illness, surrounded by her children and grandchildren at home. Words cannot express our sorrow.
She worked in the administrative offices for Kanawha County Schools. She graduated from Dunbar High School in 1947.
Her greatest joy was having all her family gather for Sunday dinners. She enjoyed reading, sewing, taking trips with her girls, winning at Yahtzee on Wednesday evenings and cooking for her family. And she would never let a coupon expire!
She is survived by her children, Beverly (Lyle) Clendenin, Rick Ray (Ruth Ann Kennedy), Bill Ray (Roxanne Matheny), Nancy (Jim) Canterbury and Cheri (Mike) Walker; Grandchildren, Vicki (Kevin) Dye, Jill Oliver, Mike (Sarah) Clendenin, Richie (Stormy) Ray, Crystal Hale (Margie “Jackie” Skeens), Jason (Jessica) Canterbury; Great Grandchildren, Abigail and Lauren Dye, Elijah (Kayle Landers) and Tristan Clendenin, Milo Ray, Alex and Mackenzie Hale, Amelia and EJ Canterbury. And numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by precious family members, Arnold Ray (husband), Bridgette Venanzi (granddaughter), Jason Venanzi (grandson-in-law), Pam Ray and Candi Ray (daughters-in-law). William Ural and Gladys Finney (parents), Darrell, Otis and Curtis Finney (brothers).
We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the love and care given to our precious Mother by Dr. Kelli Dumm and Kanawha Hospice.
Celebration of Frances’s life will be at 1:00pm, Saturday, September 2, 2023, at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with our cousin Teddy Ray officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mt. Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 11 until time of celebration at the funeral home.
