Ferne Williams, 98, of Charleston, WV died November 8, 2016 at home. On May 19, 1918, she became the third daughter of Harry F. and Constance Williams. She graduated from Dunbar High School and Morris Harvey College. She later furthered her education at West Virginia University and the University of Cincinnati. She spent many decades teaching in several Kanawha County elementary schools and had the distinction of being on the first team teaching endeavor in West Virginia. As a young woman she enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, and she entertained visitors with her reminiscences of the 1939 World Fair and her stories from the Southwest. In addition to her parents, her sister, Rosanne Young (Philip) sister, Alma Rubinstein (Maurice) and brother, James Williams (Joan) predeceased her. She is survived by her niece, Constance Meadows; nephew, Daniel Rubinstein; grandnephew, Philip Meadows and great grandnieces, Charlotte and Samantha Meadows. She also leaves behind her steadfast friends Merle and Larry Boyce, Tina Gibson, Wanda Patton and Erin Haynes who meant so much to her. In lieu of flowers, her family and friends encourage donations to Kanawha County Hospice. Services will be held Saturday, November 12th, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home, 5233 Rocky Fork Rd., Cross Lanes, WV 25526.
