Charles Wood Stanley, 86 of Cross Lanes, WV, peacefully passed away Sunday, June 9, 2024, at Hubbard Hospice West at Thomas Hospital. He was surrounded by his wife Susann and family when he passed from this earth to his heavenly home. Charles was born March 11, 1938, at Notomine, WV. Through the years he was employed as a survey/engineer and reclamation specialist with Carbon Fuel Company and Cedar Coal Company/AEP. He retired from Kanawha County Schools in 2000, as a bus driver. He was a member of the first board of directors of Cabin Creek Health Center; and in earlier years managed and umpired little league baseball teams on Cabin Creek. He never met a stranger, and no matter where he traveled, always managed to find someone he knew. He enjoyed the outdoors with his garden and flowers; traveling around West Virginia; watching the West Virginia Mountaineers and Cincinnati Reds; and even in later years, still went out hunting. He always enjoyed a conversation about the coal mines with his “breakfast buddies”.
Charles is preceded in death by his father and mother, Kelly and Julia Stanley, and baby brother Calvin. He is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Susann; sisters Joann Mullins of Charleston, Julia Miller of Topeka, KS, and Jeanette (Joe) Redd of South Charleston. He is also survived by children Charles (Tina) of Hansford, WV, Bruce of Cross Lanes, and Faith (Bruce) of Belle, WV; stepchildren Steve (Courtney) Rawlings of Nitro, and Karen (Bobby) Parker of Sissonville; 9 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. John and the staff of Thomas Cancer Center, along with the staff of Hubbard Hospice West, for their excellent care and compassion during this difficult time.
Celebration of Charles’s life will be 3:00 P.M. Friday, June 14, 2024 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home with Pastor Don Toler officiating.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 2 until time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, and in his memory, the family requests donations be made to the Hubbard Hospice House, 1606 Kanawha Blvd W., Charleston, WV 25387; or a food pantry of your choosing.
Come unto me, all ye who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest……. Matthew 11:28.
