Born July 19, 1955 in Canton, Ohio to Clayton and Jessie Juanita (Leach) Sweatt, she married John Alyn Sheldon, II on December 7, 1974 in East Peoria. He died May 31, 2022 in Creve Coeur. She was also preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, David Sweatt and Gordon Sweatt.
Surviving are two daughters, Summer (William Ray) Sheldon of Peoria and Brandy Sheldon-Huffman of Bartonville; six grandchildren, Noah, Dakota, Nathaniel, Gabrielle, Gracie and Emily; two great-grandchildren, Maverick and Kayson; one sister, Diane McHenry of East Peoria and her sister-in-law and best friend, Sue Sweatt of East Peoria.
A homemaker, Debra enjoyed gardening and loved dancing, she was known to make an occasional TikTok video. Her greatest enjoyment was spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Debra was a longtime member of Pekin Lighthouse Church of God. She served as a trustee, Sunday school teacher and was involved in Women’s Ministry.
Her funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 11, 2023 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. Pastor Rick Hill will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be at Roberts Cemetery in Morton.
