Arloa Alice Gerber

Arloa Alice (Gentry) Gerber was born in Denver, Colorado, on August 3, 1943, to Dorothy (Wilson) Gentry and Vernon Cosby and passed away on December 9, 2024, as a result of injuries sustained in a car accident where her husband, Ervin Gerber, and daughter-in-law Ashley James also passed away.

At a young age, Arloa spent most of her time with her Grandparents, Ellis, and Cora Wilson, until her mother remarried Bill Gentry, who later adopted Arloa.

Arloa was very musically talented. She played the piano and the upright bass in high school and college, where she attended Colorado Women’s College in Denver.

Erv met Arloa while working on Bill Chambers's ranch west of Craig. They were married on June 9th, 1963, in Craig, Colorado, at the Methodist Church in Meeker, Colorado. Their oldest son, Darrell, was born five years later in 1968, and Wade followed in 1971.

Arloa worked at the Moffat County State Bank in Craig and then stayed at home, raising the boys until they were older. At that point, she began working for the Post Office, where she became known throughout the county as one of the best.

Erv and Arloa spent many years square dancing, which was also a family event for the boys growing up.

Arloa has spent her whole life giving back to the community through her time as a 4-H leader, serving on multiple boards, including the Cowbell’s (now Moffat County Cattlewomen), Craig Concert Association, the Luttrell Barn Foundation and Daughters of the American Revolution. She was also a dedicated voter judge for the Moffat County Election Office and spent many hours doing volunteer work with the Museum of Northwest Colorado.

Arloa was known for her tenacity and grit through every aspect of her life. There was never a time in her life that she would back down from a challenge, even if it were an 800-pound momma cow. Her love for animals was a part of every day of her life with cows, horses, cats, dogs, and the peacocks that rule the ranch. Even to the end, Arloa and Erv would spend a good portion of their weeks tending to the livestock and feeding the cows every day in the winter, no matter how cold or stormy it was.

The greatest thing to happen to her was the grandsons and now their families. To watch her with pure joy and love to hold her great-grandsons would put a smile on any face.

Arloa is survived by her Son Wade (Tinneal) Gerber; Grandsons Tyler (Corinne) and Kearn (Sierra) Gerber; Great-Grandsons Dawson and Harvey Gerber; Sisters Arlene (Chuck) Estes and Cora Steele; niece Holly Steele; and nephew Bill Steel. She is preceded in death by her husband Ervin, son Darrell Gerber, daughter-in-law Ashley James, parents Bill and Dorothy Gentry, Vernon Cosby, and her grandparents Ellis and Cora Wilson.

A visitation for family and friends will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m., Friday, December 20, 2024, at Grant Mortuary in Craig. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 21, 2024, at the Moffat County High School Auditorium. Burial will follow at Craig Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Arloa's memory to Moffat County Cattlewomen's in care of Grant Mortuary, 621 Yampa Avenue, Craig, Colorado 81625.
