Richard Carlton Smith

Richard C. Smith, 74 of Covington, Louisiana passed away peacefully on January 30, 2021 with his family by his side. Born in Huntsville, Alabama to Lawson George (LG) and Martha Smith. Richard lit up a room with his vivacious personality, never met a stranger, loved to host parties and watch his children play sports.

Man of many talents, he spent his career in the swimming pool business from a Life Guard in college to building and selling pools. In 1980 he and partner Frank St. Romain started South Central Pool Supply. In 1990 he and his wife decided to open a family retail and service business in Salisbury, Maryland along with his children. In 1999 he and his wife moved back to Louisiana as a regional manager for Fort Wayne Pools. They were acquired by PoolCorp and he retired as a purchasing manager in 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Debbie, and daughter, Stephanie Carey; four grandchildren, Riley (Morgan), Dakota (Koty), Emma and Chance; one great-granddaughter, Nora. Preceded in death by his son, Richie and by his brother, Robert (Bob).

Relatives and Friends are invited to a Memorial Visitation which will be held at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433 on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 9:00 AM until 11:00 AM followed by a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Grace Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family would request a donation in memory of him to: Most Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 501 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433.
