It’s the Soldier,
not the pastor/preacher, who has given us freedom of religion and worship. 

It’s the Soldier,
not the reporter, who has given us freedom of the press.

It’s the Soldier,
not the poet, who has given us freedom of speech.

It’s the Soldier,
not the demonstration organizer, who has given us freedom to assemble and demonstrate. 

It’s the Soldier,
not the lawyer, who has given us the right to a fair trial. 

It’s the Soldier,
not the politician, who has given us the right to vote, ensures our right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
It’s the Soldier, Who salutes the Flag, who serves beneath the Flag and whose coffin is draped by the Flag, who gives the protester the right to burn the flag.

The American Soldier does not fight because he hate who is in front of him; he fights because he love who is behind him.

ETERNAL REST GRANT HIM O LORD AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HIM. Rest easy gently soul. You will be deeply missed and always remembered. God speed on your new journey. Sending our love and prayers for you, that your soul forever rests in eternal peace.

I’ve had few friendships in my life that I valued more Jerry.  I am deeply saddened by news of his passing.  Condolences to Lea and the entire family.

I’m so sorry to be losing another relative of mine. Jerry had called to inform about Bob’s passing then God was ready for him in less than 3 weeks. He and Bob kept in touch through nice or funny emails that we all enjoyed.  God bless his wife Lea, children, and grandchildren.  Though we rarely saw each other since childhood, his last words were… I love you Christy ♥️

I was a colleague and friend of Jerry’s.  As a colleague, Jerry was always at the top of his game.  He understood what was needed and sensed the best way to get it quickly.  He was both respected and genuinely liked by subordinates, peers and superiors. One of the things that made it such a pleasure to work with Jerry was his sense of humor.  He had a way of lightening the burden through humor.

As a friend, Jerry was always there, providing support and understanding during both the good times and the not so good times.  He was quick to reinforce praise and achievement or to point out the silver lining when called for.  Optimism was his trademark.

I am going to miss the 2-hour phone calls with Jerry.  Things always seemed good after talking with him so remembering him will always bring a smile to my heart.

My sincere condolences to Lea, Adam, Chris and their families.

My heart is breaking for you. Though I didn't know him, I know your husband  must have been a wonderful man because you chose him just for you. Please know that I have you in my thoughts and prayers, and I will continue to pray until I see you again.

I will never forget the wonderful times that my husband, Marty, and I spent with Jerry & Lea when they lived in Northern VA.  We had so much fun and we've been reminiscing about all of Jerry's antics, which are legendary.   As word of his passing has gotten around to former IRS coworkers , we've heard nothing but accolades about Jerry, who was truly the best of the best.  I will miss him so much!

Here is a photo taken of beautiful Lea, who was the love of Jerry's life.   Lea is a wonderful friend and was part of the YaYa group that 4 of us created.  (IRS friends do know how to have fun!)  We are sending our heartfelt condolences to the entire Songy family and hope that you will find comfort in your memories of fun times.  That's a strategy all of us will be using.  

Jerry was my cousin and next door neighbor in New Orleans. My memory of him is as a fun, thoughtful, and inventive person. He and my brother played games together when they were young and always found time to bother me and my sister with their antics. I cherish those memories of our shared youth in the Irish Channel. I pray for Jerry and offer my deepest condolences to the whole Songy family.

I visited Jerry and Lea’s home on several occasions as a member of Vieux Carre. Jerry was a charming gentleman and always very courteous. I am so very saddened to hear of his passing and send my prayers with his family.

Lea I am so saddened to learn of Gerry's passing.  He was such a wonderful man and I looked forward to seeing the two of you when I stopped by.  Praying for you and family during this difficult times.

Adam and Chris, I am so sorry for your loss. As I’ve said many times, I just loved your dad. He was truly one of the best, a real diamond in this rough world. I know you’ll miss him, but I also know that his spirit loves on in you. God Bless you both, along with the rest of the family.

To Jerry's family.

I worked with Jerry at the IRS on the modernization program. He was always up-beat and full of energy. Not only was he smart, he was highly capable and a true gentleman. 

I am sorry to learn that Jerry has passed on to the next adventure, which I'm certain he will embrace with enthusiasm.

Jerry and I were XD classmates. Not only was Jerry a kind individual, but he was great at telling jokes to keep us amused during the long days of classes and on road trips. Jerry was respected as a great leader at the IRS and was a wealth of institutional knowledge. My sincere condolences to Lea and the entire Songy family.
