Dear Maureen, Barb, Doug and families, 

It was a great honour and privilege to sing with Jim for many years in the bass section of the Dukes of Harmony. He was always so supportive, and his warm nature and sense of humour were so much appreciated.

As a father-in-law to my sister (Joanne), I also enjoyed Jim’s wonderful presence at various family functions and at Harmony Ranch over the years. He will be greatly missed.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers have been with you all.

I knew Jim for only a few years. We sang together in the BOAA Choir. 
He was a great guy and always had a smile for everyone. He will be greatly missed in the choir. Sending my prayers and love to Maureen and all the Lyon family at this most difficult time.

Yes , we have loss a great person, but his Memories will live on, Forever.   Jim having been such a Great Leader to his family, and his Community, will no doubt be remembered by many.
His Love of Singing, bringing Joy, and Great Feelings to many, including ourselves especially with the Dukes of Harmony, was a great inspiration to many, which included Bernie.
Always Sad to see a Love one Leave this Earth, but we were all fortunate to have had him in our Lives. We say Keep Singing Jim,
and Maureen and family be Thankful for the Great Time, and for such a long time.

Jim was a GOOD friend to many of us, always willing to help and get involved.    Jim and Maureen were one of the few who made a point of keeping in touch with Ellenor when she was in the nursing home - Jim made a difference.  
He will be missed, but those memories he was involved in making will be cherished.

Dear Maureen and Family,

Shirley and I were shocked to learn of Jim's passing.  In 1985 I joined the Scarborough Dukes and soon became associated with Jim, a very active and dedicated Duke and a little later with Jim in the Barons of Barbershop, a smaller but active but fun group where we made many fond memories.  We know that Jim will be greatly missed and we hope that you will find solace in God's love and the many memories that are yours to forever cherish.

Janet and I send our deepest condolences to Jim's entire family.  I enjoyed my time singing with him with the Durham Men of Harmony.  My father was born in Scotland and emigrated to Canada in 1928.  In talking about our heritage we discovered that Finlay & Lyon are both members of the Farquharson Clan.  We spent many good moments chatting about our common heritage.  He will be missed by all members of the Ontario District who had the privilege to know him.  I am sorry I will miss singing at the funeral as I am away for the winter.

I am very lucky to have known Jim. He was an incredible volunteer at Harmony Ranch. 40 years ago he was teaching me to change the oil in the tractor and sharpen flailer blades; and this past summer he was still helping me fix a lawnmower. He was an important part of the ranch for 50 years. Jim will be greatly missed.

I sang with Jim for 15 years and worked with him on the Dukes Board.
What a great guy! Dedicated, knowledgeable, reliable and a great sense of humour.
We, along with fellow Duke Max Woudstra, took care of the Dukes risers truck - making sure that the District conventions were ready for chorus contests.  Jim knew about mechanics so together we'd do what was needed to keep things on the road.
Sitting in coffee shops, waiting, sharing stories and laughs.
We all loved to sing but we really enjoyed each other's company. The truck has been gone for a few years now so Jim never got to stuff a stick of dynamite up the tailpipe, as he often threatened to do! 
Whether riding on the school bus from COTS to the Orillia Opera House and singing with The Dukes on stage at contest,
It was always better if I was with Jim.

Dear Maureen ,Barb ,Doug and all  family  member, our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you today and forever. When a loved one leaves this world ,the love that has been shared and each memory shared and given, leaves behind to all we touched a candle burning bright.Sending you comfort in knowing how brightly their  love will shine on . Jim was a very dear member of Rosedale Circle at Harmony Ranch. He was always busy, working on his own lot or giving a hand to others.  He was the 'sound man' at events at the picnic shelter, setting up his equipment before events and taking it all down again at the end. His humor and kindness will be missed.


Barb are deepest condolences to you and your family. I am so glad I had the pleasure of knowing your father on a personal level. I could tell how much he loved harmony ranch. And his family. Charlie loved seeing your dad and got such a kick out of his personality. He was like the uncles I have grown up with. And felt comfortable with him more every year. Lots of big hugs from jaye and myself!! 

It's a sad day for many of us who had the pleasure of knowing Jim and singing with him.  He was a great friend to many and will be sorely missed.

It is with great sadness that I learn of Jim's passing.  My condolences to Maureen, Barb, Doug and Family at this time.  A dedicated Barbershopper and founding Harmony Ranch Member, Jim was alway generous with his time and constant with his devotion.   R.I.P. Jim.

From the time with the Dukes to the decades at Harmony Ranch, Jim was the helpful, supportive, gentleman that was always ready to do whatever he could to make things work better for everyone.  Our community will miss him. 
We'll carry on without Jim helping with the sound system, taking down the risers, or managing the recycling pop cans but luckily for us, he left us a large extended family that seem to enjoy the benefits of his efforts at Harmony Ranch and have become an important part of our family.  Jim rest in peace.  

Our condolences to Maureen and the family. As neighbours at Rosedale Circle at Harmony Ranch, we always enjoyed Jim's sense of humour and vast knowledge of barbershop singing. He will be greatly missed.
