Norma Darlene Lawson (O’Neill) born July 14th, 1957 in Ontario passed away January 3rd, 2020 in Courtenay B.C. From an early age Darlene had a zest for life that was bigger than she was. She had a way of making everyone feel special and loved. She grew up being one of four kids in what she would describe as perfect life. Her parents were her strength and light up until the day she passed. Her bond with each sibling was different and unique but something she treasured beyond measure. As a teenager she was involved with school sports, swimming, gymnastics, and many more things. But what she loved more than anything was being in the outdoors. Darlene loved adventure. Once she moved out to B.C she started to explore and found her way to the little island she called paradise. This is where she would call home, get married, and raise her children. Darlene was a lot of amazing things but what she was truly exceptional at was being a mom. She poured her heart and soul into her two daughters. She passed on her love for sports, fishing, camping, dancing and laughing among other things. Just when we thought she couldn’t love anymore she became a grandparent. Her love for her children and grandchildren was immense. Another love she had was for her friends. They were so important to her and she took pride in being part of their lives. Darlene was involved in a lot of things throughout the community and was always meeting new people and making friends, but one of her favourite things was Music Fest and all the amazing energy that came with it. It wasn’t just people that were drawn to her but animals as well. She couldn’t pass one without giving them some love and treats. Darlene had this ability to make you feel as though you could do anything if you just tried. She pushed you to be honest about who you were and embrace it. She saw the good in people and ways always there to lend a hand. Darlene’s laugh was contagious and full of life, just as she was. She was a lot of things but what she was most of all was loved. Loved by her family, loved by her friends, and loved by her community. She leaves behind two daughters Danielle (Tyler) and Richelle (Michael), their father (Richard), 3 grandchildren with one on the way, siblings, nieces, nephews and many more loved ones. A celebration of life will be held on Feb 8th from 1-4pm at the Comox Legion.
