Mike was an absolute gem of a man. He was genuine, warm, and caring. We will always remember his wonderful smile and great sense of humour.
As husband to Landy, his deep love for her was evident to anyone who spent time with this adorable couple. Together, they built a wonderful life filled with adventures, travel, laughs, great food, gardening, and TV-ready dance moves.
Mike is also survived by his mother, Carol, and brothers, Andy and Jean François. He was a cherished son and brother who enjoyed spending time at the cottage in Halliburton, snowboarding with his brothers, and playing with his many nieces and nephews.
Mike was the beloved uncle to Isabel, Hayley, Brandon, Dahlia, Theo, Damien, Paul, Ika, Risto, Mely, Angel, Arto, Siska, Charlie, James, Marcel, Isto, Del, Hilly, Asti, Rifka, Greg, Sandro, Nando, Dian, Gio, Visca, Jose, Tamy, Figo, Argel, Gisella, and honorary uncle to countless friends’ kids. He had such a natural and comfortable way with children and was adored by all.
Mike’s circle of friends spanned the globe. Anywhere he lived, worked, or travelled, he left behind a trail of close friends. From the HMV crew in Calgary, to the archeologist community, Mike was loved by so many. Friends have shared stories of his warmth, infectious laugh, occasionally NSFW parties, and his genuinely beautiful soul.
Mike was an advocate for social justice, and through his passion for archaeology, he fostered meaningful relationships with First Nations communities. His commitment went beyond mere rhetoric; he embodied his convictions in his actions. Via his work throughout British Columbia, he was honoured to work with First Nations and diligently contribute to the documentation, and preservation of cultural heritage.
Mike loved spending time in nature, particularly in the woods and the mountains. His work suited him perfectly.
He had an encyclopedic knowledge of music, and most of us (except for the HMV crew!) will never be cool enough to even attempt to describe all of the genres and subgenres that he loved.
On the physical plane, Mike’s heart failed him, and caused him to be taken from us all far too soon. His HEART though, was wonderful. Mike's presence brightened everyone around him. We love him, miss him, and may we live to honour his memory.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at Piercy’s Funeral Home in Comox at 1030 on 1 May 2024.
