Maureen was predeceased by her father James (Jimmy) Weir, her mother Nettie Weir (nee Robertson), her brother William (Billy) Weir, her husband of 62 years Jack (Pop), and her great grandson Noah.
She is survived by her daughters Jan, Terry (Larry) Rennison, son John (Krista), grandchildren Ryan, Jennifer, Taeryn, Graeme, Owen, Lindsay, Stephanie, and three great-grandchildren Jacob, Judah, and Anja.
Born on February 4th, 1933 in Bevan, she was a true coal miner’s daughter. Maureen spent most of her life in Cumberland, briefly living in Union Bay after her wedding.
Maureen (“Moe” to her friends) was integral part of Cumberland during her life. Some of her community involvement included Victoria Day May Queen in 1947, Brownie Leader, member of the Kinsmen Ladies, and member of the Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Maureen was a School Librarian for her entire career, mostly at Cumberland Elementary School. Maureen was also a member of a ladies “exclusive card playing club” for over 60 years.
Maureen loved reading, camping around the island, and spending summers at the family cabin on Hornby Island.
Our “Nana” deeply cherished her family, and she was very proud of all of us. She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Cumberland Community School Library to purchase books for the students in Maureen’s name.
